"Our stay at Thompson Zihuatanejo on Playa La Ropa was exceptional from start to finish.
The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly suited to a relaxing beach escape. The pools are fantastic — peaceful, well maintained, and a wonderful place to spend the day soaking up the atmosphere.
The breakfast and dinners at the resort restaurant were a highlight of our stay. We especially appreciated the focus on fresh local produce and authentic regional dishes, all prepared with great quality and care.
What truly made the experience special was the staff. Every member of the team was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, creating the kind of hospitality that makes you want to return.
And the sunsets… evening walks along Playa La Ropa directly in front of the resort were simply magical. Watching the sun disappear over the bay with the waves rolling in was unforgettable.
A beautiful resort in one of Mexico’s most stunning beach locations — we would happily return."
"Great place and just about half a block from Playa Ropa. Staff was very helpful. The room was awesome with nice views from the balcony. I'd stay here again."
"I first booked through Expedia and got an excellent deal. I wanted to extend my stay, I did but was more expensive. I liked the location of the hotel and the room I got, so I paid the extra. The problem when making reservations, you do not know what room you will get. The rooms on ground level might have great access to beach and pool, but most rooms are not private al all. When in the room you would need to draw your curtains. The first-floor rooms are a gamble, you might get a patio but if you do not, there is no privacy at all if you have a room facing the hallway. The staff is wonderful and make you feel at home. Breakfast included many options; If I go back, I will get the package, it is great. The rooms are basic but more than enough, do not expect luxury, only clean and comfortable with easy access to the beach. EVERY member of the staff is GREAT!"
"Location is beautiful and the rooms are large and spacious in most cases… In the air conditioning works well, as does the showers with her warm enough but not very hot. For the price it’s a good deal, but unfortunately their restaurant is only open during daylight hours and closes at 6 PM, with no close options. However, they have and will assist with delivery of dinners, arranging from pizza to hamburgers to tacos, which do you arrive about 45 minutes after the order and they are still hot. Was clean, the beach incredibly beautiful and spacious…. This is not a luxury hotel, but has everything you need to have a nice day with your family or if you are on your own. One of the staff, Adela, is bilingual and speaks Spanish and English, which will help in case you’re a Spanish is not up to snuff. The price is reasonable, as well. Fertilized in the area, if you’re a birder, is exciting, and you can walk expansive beaches for kilometers, day and night. Enjoy."
"We spent seven full nights at Portofino and it was truly serene. Three things stood out:
1) The staff. Our servers E and A were truly amazing. Sometimes there was a language barrier, but it was more entertaining than a negative. As a US resident visiting a foreign country I don't expect our hosts to automatically speak english and it was actually more authentic to wade through some back and forth. And it wasn't a distraction at all we enjoyed the conversation. They were always checking on us.
2) The view. We saw seven sunsets, all equally brilliant, and all different but the same at the same time. It became the highlight of every day.
3) If you want relaxation, this is it. You move on your own time. If you want to visit local areas, there is a convenient bus that rolls through and can take you to the airport or towards Barra de Potosi. Taxis and rental cars work as well and you can park there for free. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with sitting by the pool or exploring the beach all day long.
We would go back 100%."
"This property is a dream. Our room was perfect. The bed was so comfortable and the little kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. We loved starting each day with complimentary morning coffee on our private, ocean view terrace before heading down to enjoy Jesus’ freshly prepared breakfast in the common, outdoor breakfast area. Humberto was a wonderful host and provided us with great restaurant recommendations, arranged taxis for us and helped us negotiate cambi routes to get us where we wanted to go. Finally, the view of La Ropa, the bay and beyond from the upper pool is beyond description. "
