"We stayed at Marley’s Retreat because we had some business to do in Newcastle. The cottage looks tiny from the outside, but once up the stairs we found a roomy but cosy front room and a luxurious master bedroom. The solemn wooden furniture in the big bedroom complimented the cottage/flat beautifully and is very classy as well as providing plenty of space for clothes. The bed is absolutely huge! I’m 5’10” and I touched neither the headboard nor footboard when I was sprawled out enjoying the space available to me. The kitchen, bathroom and second bedroom are somewhat ‘bijou’ but that didn’t stop us cooking, showering or making use of the second bedroom. The floors are not completely flat which I loved, as it was a nod to the age of the building and its historicity. Max had decorated the flat very tastefully, with Christmas mugs, mats (in the bathroom) and a delightful Nutcracker duvet set in the big bedroom, as well as a tree, lights and window stickers.All in all it was a lovely refuge and I’d like to buy the flat as is, let alone stay there again, which we certainly will if we’re ever up in Northumberland again!"

"Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room I was in (#46) was spacious, clean and comfortable. The shower, although small was hot with strong waterflow. The single bed I used was very comfortable. It is close to the beach and public transport. However the lobby was a rundown and could do with a reno and there was no refrigerator in the room. I wouldn't normally choose this accommodation but as I was only there to visit my mother in hospital so I was out most of the day -it served it's purpose as a comfortable place to sleep."
