About this property

Sea Ranch 3BR home, two decks & partial ocean views — dog welcome

  • Summary:

A short walk connects your front door to the bluff trail and the Pacific. Three bedrooms sleep up to 7 in this updated Sea Ranch home with two furnished decks, partial ocean views, a wood-burning stove, a jetted-tub room, and a ping pong game room — and your dog is welcome. The Del Mar Recreation Center's heated pool and courts are a one-minute walk.

    The Space:

Breathe in the fresh ocean air at this three-bedroom Sea Ranch retreat — two furnished decks, partial ocean views, and the Del Mar Recreation Center's outdoor heated pool, tennis, pickleball, and saunas a one-minute walk away. Multiple Bluff Trail access points sit within a short walk of the property, the Sea Ranch Golf Links tee off one mile north, and downtown Gualala's groceries and galleries are three miles up the road.

While the exterior keeps that iconic Sea Ranch architecture, the interior is tastefully updated and full of warm natural woods, stainless steel appliances, and large windows framing ocean and meadow. Ease into the day with a soak in the standalone jetted-tub room, carry coffee to a furnished deck, watch birds and wildlife work the adjacent meadow, and take a sunset stroll to Walk On Beach before dinner in the elegant open kitchen. On foggy evenings, the wood-burning stove does what wood stoves do best.

Bring your pup along — this home welcomes 1 dog, and the bluff trails were made for morning walks together. A game room with a ping pong table settles any after-dinner debates, and bicycles are available for exploring the quiet Sea Ranch roads. From December through April, keep an eye on the horizon — gray whales migrate just offshore, and the decks make a fine viewing platform.

Nearby highlights include community heated pool (North) (1-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (5-minute drive), The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (5-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. For provisions, Gualala (10 minutes north) has grocery stores, restaurants, and a gas station. Jenner and Bodega Bay are scenic drives south.

    Getting Around:

This home sits on the west side of Highway 1, just around the corner from an outdoor heated pool, saunas, and two tennis courts at the Del Mar Recreation Center. Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is the nearest airport, about 1.5 hours east. A car is essential for exploring the area.

    Other Things to Note:

You can even use the free WiFi as you relax by the fire.

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

Keep your eyes on the horizon from December to April -- gray whales migrate just offshore, and this property has a front-row seat. Visit in spring and the meadows explode with wildflowers. April through June is peak bloom season along the Sonoma Coast. The warmest months are June through September. Expect coastal fog most mornings that gives way to sunny afternoons.

Up to 1 dog is welcome. Please keep dogs on leash on trails and clean up after them.

A week in The Barn

We spent a week in The Barn. First the positive things: proximity to the recreation center (if you use that); plenty of kids toys and games, so if you come with a bunch of kids, this place is accommodating; the soaking tub is nice; dog friendly aspect is appreciated; architecture is interesting; both decks are sunny and the deck furniture is comfortable; the living room wood stove is nice and there's plenty of firewood. Now the negative aspects: housekeeping could have done a much better job--there were dirty bowls in the drawers, refrigerator handles were sticky with residue, balls of pet hair behind the living room couch; master bedroom windows toward the ocean do not open--only the side window opens and it lets in highway noise; master bedroom gas fireplace does not operate; the adult bikes are not maintained and are dangerous to ride; the house location is line of sight to the highway and traffic noise is constant (this is clearly shown on the map so it's not an unknown negative aspect, only a heads up); DVD player was broken and Vacasa advised us to operate it with a butter knife; thermostat operation is frustrating and weird; there was no place at all to store food, so we had to store food on the counter and during the night the mice ate holes in our food containers so we had to throw it away--Vacasa advised us to store food in cupboards as a solution; mattress in second bedroom slopes steeply into the center of the bed. For these reasons, we will not be returning to The Barn.

kid friendly home

The house was a good option for a group with small children. We had hoped for a hot tub but the outdoor tub was ahave been an interesting substitution. Although the house is near the ocean it is a bit of a trek to get to th e beach but the tennis courts and pool are very close.

Overall good but needs blinds

This house has a good location and layout. The decks are great and there are lots of things for kids to do. There are several bikes in the garage for use too. The kitchen has all the items you will need. Our biggest complaint was that the bedrooms did not have blinds on the windows, so it's an early morning wake-up.

Birthday week with friends.

Lovely coastline . Quiet and relaxing. The barn needs some general maintenance but has basics, And lots of games, bikes, and fun stuff in the garage. Great for a family. Major problem… many Windows don’t open… Such a shame in the beautiful ocean environment. They should be repaired. Toilets keep running and kitchen faucet is like a shower. Needs a bit of tlc .

Well equipped, spacious home. A few teeny tiny tweaks advised

The house is lovely and spacious. It was very clean upon our arrival (no sign of any ants, as mentioned in other reviews). Very peaceful decks on two sides of the house, to enjoy the morning and afternoon sun. The garage is very well equipped with lots of activities for kids (full size table tennis, various balls and bikes etc). Some of the bedrooms windows were missing blinds, so we tried to fix an old blind we found in a cupboard and tried hanging sheets over the windows, with varying success. Fixing little things like this are quick and easy and would make a difference to the stay. Overall, it's a lovely property and we recommend it.

Amazing house in wonderful location

The Barn was everything I’d hoped for, and more. The house is amazing exposed beam architecture, and extremely tastefully designed and decorated. The wood stove worked wonderfully and was very cozy for a rainy day. The kitchen was well equipped and it has a great dining table. The jacuzzi is a great perk. The kids loved the kid toys and ping-pong, and that we were very close to the pool and could also easily walk to the Bluff trail. We saw wild hares and deer and foxes and quail. Highly recommend.

Perfect for a family getaway

We’ve stayed at The Barn two years in a row now and have just booked again for 2022. As previous TSR homeowners, we know what we want as far as location and amenities and The Barn delivers nicely. Close to Gualala, across the street from the Del Mar Center, a quick stroll to the coast, a well-equipped kitchen, lots of toys, beach gear, bikes and a ping pong table, and room to spread out for our family of 5. We had a few minor issues this year Will cleanliness and slow drainage in the bathrooms but overall, this is one of our favorite places to stay in TSR.

This home was large, light-filled, and pet and family friendly. The kids movie/games/reading room was a big hit. Right across the street from the Del Mar pool, tennis courts, and community center amenities. Parking/access pass must be picked up in Gualala. There is a pest issue in the kitchen, which is posted and at least partially being addressed. Some more traps are needed and small repairs to kitchen and primary bath sinks. Otherwise a lovely home in the unique Sea Ranch area.

Beautiful place but have a bad pest problem!

We loved the house but were unhappy when my son was awakened by many mice in the children’s room(game/toy closet). He saw several running around and they kept making noises in the closet while he slept. And unfortunately there is a bad ant problem as well. It was a little like camping in a beautiful home with a large price tag($$$$) The property manager called promptly when I notified the office, but it would be too disruptive to have them come in while we were there. Hopefully, it will be addressed now.

A lovely respite from smoky air

We just returned from a wonderful two nights at The Barn. Unfortunately we missed one night due to the smoky air - very disappointed! But we made the best of our two nights. The house is beautiful - very spacious with lots of comfortable spots to read and look at the peaceful view. There are beautiful walks in the neighborhood- walk north to Solstice or south to Tidepool for paths to the bluff, and walk down to Walk In Beach. The house is very dog friendly- mine saw a fox and two deer! The house does have a couple of quirks - the freezer popped open every time someone closed the frig, agree that the master bed is too soft - but this is True of every rental house. I would retain a heartbeat and have recommended to my friends!

Nice House

House is very well maintained and taken care of. Nice bedrooms. Kitchen is well-stocked. Nice location, though no real view. But we'd recommend it and would look forward to returning. Nice to see a Sea Ranch house so well taken-care of!
