"A lovely place to stay! The room is spotless, the lobby is comfortable, and the breakfast is outstanding. The only minor drawback is that you need a taxi or will have to drive to the old town; the distance is too far to be walkable. Front desk staff can readily call a taxi, however -- and to return to the hotel, you just walk to the train station to find a cab."

"Lovely breakfast, lovely hotel. Minor point the bathroom in room 125 could do with a lick of paint to freshen it up but overall anyone booking this hotel will be making a good choice in a unique location "

"A Fantastic Stay – Highly Recommended! We had a wonderful experience at the Nicolaus Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we felt safe and well taken care of. The free shuttle from the airport was a huge plus and made our arrival stress-free. The room was spacious enough for our family, which was a pleasant surprise, and the bed was incredibly comfortable – we all slept so well. Even the little things were thoughtfully done – we absolutely loved the soap! Now, the breakfast… hands down the best we’ve ever had at a hotel. There were so many choices, from fresh fruits and pastries to hot dishes and local specialties – something for everyone, and everything was delicious. We also appreciated that there were plenty of good food options just a short walk up the road, which made dining out super convenient. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return. Highly recommend!"

"Staying in a cave room but having an entryway in the room with windows out on the gorgeous Matera scenery is perfect. We also had a porch with chairs to sit outside. The breakfast was amazing! Fresh and delicious food served to us by the most welcoming people you could ask for, Angela and Agnese. We also had a wonderful piano player, Gianni, at breakfast every day - now that's a first for us!. If we went back to Matera, which we hope to do some day, we would stay here again. The only negative is WiFi is not reliable in our room. Unfortunately across all of southern Italy our 5g T-mobile plan didn't work either so we used physical maps. We stayed a week and so were able to see a lot of this magnificent area. Most people only stay two or three nights and I feel that is not enough. "

"Excellent hotel to stay at when in Puglia. It's extremely well located near Polignano a Mare, with incredible views, restaurants, and some shops. It has a fantastic Medieval look all over, as it is located in the Center of everything. It has a beautiful Cathedral in front and a very safe area. The staff is outstanding, caring, and very resourceful. They have very well-trained people managing several languages to communicate. It's immaculate and has all you need inside and outside the rooms. I highly recommend this Hotel!"
