Potters Cottage - Two Bedroom House, Sleeps 4

Ideal for couples or a family, this traditional cottage in Richmond is a welcoming base for exploring all this characterful market town has to offer. Start your day browsing the cobbled Market Place, where weekly markets and a monthly farmers' market provide a tempting selection of local produce and crafts. Winding streets lead off in every direction, filled with welcoming pubs, tempting cafes, independent shops, and inviting tearooms. History lovers will be drawn to Richmond Castle, a magnificent Norman fortress with far-reaching views from the walls and scenic walks down to the river and its dramatic waterfalls. Afterwards, head to The Station – a beautifully restored Victorian railway building that now houses a cinema, real ale brewery, ice cream parlour, and art gallery. With the wild beauty of Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales surrounding the town, Richmond is also a dream destination for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers. Tucked away behind a vibrant blue street door, the cottage was once a clay potter’s workshop. Accessed via a characterful passageway, the entrance opens into a small hallway where you can kick off your boots and hang your coat after a day of exploring. Inside, the cottage is a delightful blend of old and new, with light-filled rooms, tasteful period features, shuttered blinds and fresh, calming decor. Off the hallway, you’ll find a stylish shower room for warming up after a bracing country walk. Take a few steps up, and you'll enter the bright, open-plan living space, where the well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for rustling up anything from hearty dinners to picnic lunches. The breakfast bar is the ideal spot for a quick morning coffee or for sipping a glass of wine while dinner bubbles away on the hob. In the lounge area, a roaring wood burner adds warmth and there's a Smart TV for relaxed evenings in. Upstairs, you’ll find two double bedrooms, both decorated in soft, neutral tones to create a restful ambience. The larger of the two boasts built-in storage and views across the rear of the property. Outside, the private walled courtyard is a quiet spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening drink before heading off to explore the rolling hills and villages of the Yorkshire countryside. There’s on-street parking within 100 metres of the property, subject to availability.

short break in the dales made easy

The Potter's House was very charming with nice original features; the bedroom was good and comfortable; the bathroom worked well though was two floors down, so interesting in the middle of the night! It sleeps 4, but we found it pretty cosy for 2. Kitchen well equipped. Fab welcome basket of bread, milk, cookies and a nice bottle of fizz. Parking was okay once we figured out where the long stay lot is - but there is free 2 hour parking in the market just across the road. So very convenient for food, pubs, and good walks out of town. Jan was really helpful and responsive, and Lucy next door was ready to answer any questions We'll come again, gladly. One issue - the shower was a bit slippy - could either use a hand rail or a non-slip surface.
