Overall, the accommodations were excellent. The location is quiet, comfortable and scenic. It’s location provides easy access to the attractions in the Hills.
We spent a week there in late July. Family of ten, ranging from age 12 to 72. Home was spacious enough to accommodate our group. Relaxing scenery. Centrally located to Black Hills destinations (Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, etc.)
Spacious, comfortable cabin in a somewhat remote location
Nine friends and family enjoyed our weekend at this spacious, 3-story cabin in the woods. Everything from booking to check-in to communication with Julie — went super smoothly. The only downside is a 3-mile long mountain gravel road to the cabin. Try to arrive before dark and preload the maps because you will likely have no phone service.
Despite a little hiccup with the hot water heater (which was taken care of quickly) our stay was great. would recommend this for a quite getaway up high on the mountain. there is adequate parking (we had an 18 foot trailer and three cars as well as six bikes) there is about 2-3 miles of gravel to get to the cabin and some steep hills, fine for most riders, but I would not take a first time rider here. Good communication with property manager. Have fun and enjoy the best of South Dakota.
We had a really fun time at Pactola Escape! The property looks exactly like the pictures. Some reviews have complained that it is outdated, but that is obvious from all the photos. Everything was in perfect working order, it's just not a modern cabin. The property is really beautiful. We were there during 100 degree days and the portable AC units and ceiling fans did their jobs to keep the temperature comfortable. Julie is really easy to work with and responds quickly to messages. We had 4 kids with us and they enjoyed the basement with ping pong and movies. The cabin is pretty close to Lake Pactola and we spent most days there. It's a gorgeous lake. We would go back again.
This is a lovely property with a lot of space. It is an adventure to drive up the mountain and find the place, but once you get there it's all good. It is an older home with older carpet and no air conditioning, but it was very clean and spacious and we had a lot of fun there.
Loved the property. Communcation very clear. Simple check out. We had three days of hiking, wildlife drives and fishing. Saw 250 bison at dusk. Teens loved wildlife. Fresh trout dinner was great!

Just to far out, to hard to find, not udated, no internet, no dishwasher, had to drive the trash to the dumpster,
Other than a tricky driveway up the mountain, the cabin was absolutely perfect for our vacation needs. It was picturesque, clean and well stocked. The bedroom and living area were perfect for large groups. And the scenery was beautiful and peaceful. well worth the trip.
We really enjoyed our stay on The Mountain. Everything was just as shown. Very very clean and well stocked in all .
Very good experience!
Thank you to management and property owner.
It was perfect! We were able to have peace and quite. Our phones did not always get reception but that was ok because we enjoyed family time and nature instead of our phones.
Kids loved the game room. Kitchen had everything you need. Could use a bit of updates. Beds could use new mattresses, but we had a wonderful time and deck was beautiful.

Our stay
Cabin is VERY outdated and has poor air circulation. Pretty sure everything is from the original build. For the price I would have expected better quality. Electrical outlets are old and don’t “hold” the power cords well at all. Definitely a ways up the mountain. But it suited our needs and was plenty big enough for us.
My family and I loved this cabin. It's surrounded by woods which what we wanted. The cabin is equipped with everything we need and very spacious for a family of 13. The pool table in the basement is a plus for teenagers to hang out. My favorite part of the cabin is the wrapped-around deck. Also, the manager is very helpful and always catered to our needs. It's my dream cabin getaway. Though we didn't like driving on the gravel road, we all had a wonderful time staying in this cozy place.
We loved the deck and the cabin had great spaces for our group of 4 couples. The cabin could use some updating, and the walls are really thin though. Basement smelled a little and there were some cobwebs in corners.
Had a great stay. The property is located quite a ways up the mountain with a dirt road. We left our bikes at the base at the office lot and road back and forth up the hill in the truck. Great stay.
