This charming village, built into a steep hillside, is notable for its winding narrow streets and pastel-coloured houses with abundant flower boxes.

Snuggled into the base of the Tre Pizzi Mountain on the Amalfi Coast, Praiano is a charming seaside village renowned for its relaxing atmosphere and picturesque landscape.

Once the summer home to the Doges, the wealthy dukes of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, today the village sees visitors from all over the world. They come for the relaxing Mediterranean waters and the stunning coastal views.

Explore the historical sights, churches and the religious history of the town. Visit the Church of San Luca Evangelista. Constructed in the 12th century, the baroque edifice you see today was built in 1588. With Saint Luke as its patron saint, this is the most important church in the town. Admire the marble altars, the silver bust of Saint Luke and the 18th-century majolica flooring. Climb the 364-metre (1,194-feet) hill, above sea level, to the church and convent of Santa Maria a Castro. Marvel at the views over the ocean and see the 15th-century fresco of Madonna delle Grazie (The Madonna of Thanks). Walk up to the Torre a Mare, one of Praiano’s historic landmarks. This medieval tower was once part of a series of fortified towers that were built along the coast to defend the area against pirate attacks.

Spend the day by the water at Praiano’s popular Marina di Praia beach. Relax with a book and unwind on this small pebble shore or explore Amalfi’s marine life by scuba diving or snorkelling. With a dive centre located right on the beach, diving is a year-round activity and you can get your scuba diving certification here. At the end of the day, enjoy a stroll by the water and dine in one of the restaurants or bars that line the sand.

Located between the busier Positano and Amalfi, Praiano is easily accessible by bus or ferry from Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. If you are staying in Praiano, be sure to ask your hotel about the Praiano Card, where you can receive discounts in restaurants as well as on some goods and services.

Loved Praiano - outside of hustle and bustle of bigger towns like Sorrento (stunning but different) and a lovely stop for a few days just to chill. Highly recommend and views are spectacular.

Quieter and equally as beautiful alternative to the very touristy Positano, and only a short bus or taxi away
