"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

"The room was very clean and in great condition. The bed was super comfy and the pillows were nice and plush. The closet was a huge walk in style so I was able to unpack and not have to feel like living out of a luggage bag. I loved the in room refrigerator. The shower was powerful and luxurious. Internet connected easy and was a good speed for working. Being an American speaking English only all staff was kind and spoke English for me. I felt right at home."

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent

"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

8/10 Good

"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all interactions including ordering breakfast, asking for towels, etc. Finally, the public spaces are very austere. This seems out of place with the historic hotel. For example, there are just IKEA tables and chairs in the eating area but then there is a large open foyer on the second floor with a grand piano. But there are no chairs or couches in that room. It seems with a bit of TLC this could be a great boutique hotel and cool place to hang out. This is especially true when you consider the location right across the street from the historical theatre where we attended the International Ballet Festival."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Polzig?

The best area to stay in Polzig is the Polzig village centre, particularly around the Marktstraße and Hauptstraße.

This area is the heart of Polzig, offering a traditional Thuringian experience. It's characterised by well-maintained historic buildings, local shops, and eateries. The village church, a prominent landmark, is typically found here, and the streets are generally easy to navigate on foot.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find the village centre ideal. It provides a relaxed setting for strolls, enjoying local cuisine, and experiencing the regional culture without the hustle and bustle of larger towns.

For solo travellers who appreciate peace and access to nature, staying within the village centre is also a great option.

When is the best time to go to Polzig?

The best time to visit Polzig is during the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months, when the weather is pleasant and the Thuringian landscape is particularly inviting.

Spring brings milder temperatures and the countryside comes alive with blooming flowers and lush greenery, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. The days are longer, offering more time to explore the region's natural beauty and historic towns without the peak summer crowds.

Autumn offers a beautiful display of changing leaf colours across the forests and hills, creating picturesque scenery.
