Landscaped gardens surround the grand buildings that are home to Québec’s provincial government, the perfect place to learn about the city’s political activity.

On Parliament Hill you can join a free guided tour of Québec’s splendid parliament building, Hôtel du Parlement, one of the city’s most important buildings. The huge structure is home to the National Assembly and the provincial legislature. It is surrounded by formal gardens that feature many statues. Its position on the top of Parliament Hill makes it one of the most iconic buildings in the city.

Take a peaceful stroll across Parliament Hill and you’ll come to the urban garden outside Hôtel du Parlement. The largely edible garden is home to more than 130 species of fruit, vegetable and herbs like strawberries, peas and medicinal plants. Its intention is to inspire the people of Québec to grow their own food.

Pass the statues of Québec’s former premiers. Pause by the Fontaine de Tourny to admire its intricate carvings and 43 water jets. Sign up for a free half-hour tour and you’ll be shown the National Assembly Chamber, known for its impressive collection of art. Book ahead to sit in on the assembly.

Venture to the Observatoire de la Capitale on the 31st floor of the Marie-Guyart Building, just a few minutes on foot from the Parliament Building. At 221 metres (725 feet) high you’ll be at the highest point in the city. Enjoy the panoramic views of the wilderness that surrounds Québec. Your ticket to the Observatoire de la Capitale includes a 3-D presentation that covers the city’s history.

Visit Parliament Hill after dark to see the parliament buildings illuminated by coloured floodlights. The 26 bronze statues that depict many of Québec’s notable figures from history are highlighted and make for a great photograph.

You’ll find Parliament Hill in La-Cité-Limoilou, a borough serviced by a number of bus routes. There is parking available for a fee outside the parliament buildings. Check the official website of Québec’s National Assembly for a schedule of sittings.
