  • We took a 5 day rafting trip down the San Juan. Our second camp site at Hanaker had an amazing hike up the canyon wall to a look out over the river and canyon. Very hot hike, but the views were amazing. If I did this one again, I would probably go in the morning. The raft trip itself is pretty easy, only one Class III rapid. The entrance for check in is trashy. Parking lot area upon approach needed serious cleaning up. The lobby pictured in Expedia may have been 10 years ago. The furniture in lobby has slip covers on and the carpet is old and overall dark upon entry. I will say the lady behind desk was very nice. We were advised as to where breakfast was available. It’s also a pizza restaurant. We weren’t aware of any hot tube on site. We were instructed to go to building beside lobby for our stay. Entrance is unlevel , watch your step. Appears to be new tile in entry. We walked up to our 2nd floor room, bathroom had been updated but rest of room dated, but clean and comfortable bed. Outlet where our bedside lamps were plugged into was behind bed and outlet was hanging outside of wall. Lamps wouldn’t stay lit. Overall, it looks like they are trying to update, maybe. But, I don’t think we would stay again. We were traveling over holidays and weren’t able to rebook.

The lobby area is very dated. The rooms are clean and ordinary, they are fine. The breakfast does not include any protein such as breakfast meat and eggs but offers waffles and bagels.

Customer service lacking totally

Check in was terrible , we got in at 3 several others also waiting They were not ready so sent us off with no idea of when they would be ready. The condition of the lobby area and “courtyard” frightening , delapetated, falling apart , so it made you very nervous on check in. The desk help was nice but seemed very stressed out. The rooms however were in a building next door , and very nice , clean great shower. Seems this building is new , no elevator . Breakfast was next door in delapitated building in a pizza spot . Very sparse , good yogurt machine. Nothing hot but they told us that prior . I think communication was lacking overall and customer service a zero.

Relaxing stay by the river

Orla at the front desk was so nice and helpful. We had the pleasure of her helping us both at check-in and check-out. Room was clean, but building was undergoing some construction that our room was in. Close to everything and walkable to the hot springs.

Location is great, hotel is a mess. Mold on the bathroom ceilings, paint, peeling off the walls in the bathroom, walls scratched up in the bedroom, refrigerator didn’t work, no elevator up to the second floor, hotel under construction, rooms were pretty dark and gloomy. The bed was extremely comfortable and clean. Hotel rugs are a mess.

Doing construction on the separate building, so there wasn’t a side walk into the place and they had building materials all over the place! The lady that checked us in was amazing and fun! The rest of the staff seemed nervous or inconvenienced.

My room was so quiet, clean and comfortable. I got much needed rest after a very long drive. The location was great and ir was easy to walk around. There is a beautiful walking path along the river where we got to see lots of wildlife. Great experience. Staff was so nice and helpful.
