The best areas to stay in Ostseeviertel are primarily the central districts like Warnemünde and the quieter, more residential areas such as Diedrichshagen.

Warnemünde is the heart of Ostseeviertel for visitors, offering a quintessential seaside experience. This district is famous for its wide, sandy beach, the historic lighthouse, and the "Teepott" building, which is a distinctive landmark. The Alter Strom, a former river arm now a harbour basin, is lined with fishing boats, shops, and restaurants, making it very pleasant for strolls. It's well-connected by local transport, including a regional train line directly to Rostock city centre.

Couples often find Warnemünde ideal for a relaxing seaside break. They can enjoy leisurely walks along the promenade, dine at waterfront restaurants, and take boat trips from the Alter Strom. The area offers a good mix of lively activity and opportunities for quiet moments by the sea.

For those seeking a more tranquil setting, Diedrichshagen, located just west of Warnemünde, is an excellent option. This village-like area is surrounded by green spaces and offers a peaceful escape, yet it's still only a short journey to the beaches and amenities of Warnemünde. It's characterised by its open fields and proximity to nature trails, making it a good choice for those who appreciate a quiet environment.

Families might prefer Diedrichshagen for its relaxed atmosphere and access to outdoor activities without the constant bustle.

The best time to go to Ostseeviertel is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warmest and the Baltic Sea is at its most inviting.

During this period, the average daily temperatures range from 18°C to 22°C, making it ideal for spending time on the beach and enjoying water sports. The days are also longer, with plenty of sunshine, allowing for extended exploration of the coastal paths and the nearby nature reserves. This is also when most of the local shops, restaurants, and attractions are fully operational, offering the widest range of activities.

For those who prefer a quieter experience with pleasant temperatures, late spring (May) and early autumn (September) are also excellent choices. The weather is still mild, typically between 12°C and 17°C, and the crowds are significantly smaller. This is a good time for couples looking for a relaxing break, perhaps enjoying long walks along the beach or exploring the charming fishing villages without the summer bustle. Many hotels offer better value during these shoulder seasons.
