Ohakune (Māori: Ōhākune) is a small town at the southern end of the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. It’s also a popular place to stay during ski season. #ohakune #newzealand #smalltown #tongarironationalpark #offseason #maori #māori
The 80,000 hectares Tongariro National Park (a World Heritage Area) is the centre of attraction for this district. The active volcano Mount Ruapehu dominates the landscape, rising to 2,797 metres from the surrounding countryside. It has Mount Ngauruhoe (also active) and Mount Tongariro to keep it company. The three volcanoes are a spectacular sight on a clear day—in the colder months they are capped in snow. #TakeAHike #Mountains
Ohakune is a small town in the North Island of New Zealand, situated 215 kilometres north of Wellington and 292 kilometres south of Auckland. The 7.5 metre erection, “a magnificent monolith, standing tall at the gateway to the central North Island town of Ohakune” – the famous Kiwi icon the Giant Carrot – was put there by the Ohakune Growers Association in 1984. #TakeAHike

If you are really passionate about exploring everything in and around Mt.Rupaehu and Ohakune you would probably require a good 1 week. Must do Tongariro Alpine crossing,Waitonga falls, try out chocolate Eclair at Ohakune-world famous in New Zealand.

The mountain rocks bar and cafe’, we went there for dinner. I had the seafood chowder and Rob had the steak, the food is to die for and the service is fantastic. Would highly recommend grazing here to family and friends .
