"First things first! The best thing about the RIU Emerald Bay is the staff. They are very helpful and really know how to make you feel at home. The common areas of the hotel are clean, the staff is always cleaning up and making sure the floors are dry and clean. The pools are clean and well taken care of. The restaurants, the ones we went to, had many food choices, they were all buffet style restaurants, and the staff was very helpful.
The nightly entertainment was also varied; they had rock bands, norteño, and pop music. We certainly enjoyed the shows.
Our room was spacious and clean.
The things I didn't like: We were not able to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants; we could not get the app for the hotel and, when I asked the person at the reception desk to make reservations for us, she told us that they had given out their spaces for the day and to get up early, I think she said 7 AM to make sure we get a reservation. I have been to Playa del Carmen, Los Cabos and Nuevo Vallarta's RIU Hotels and never, once, they failed to make reservations for me. So, we had to go with the buffet restaurants. Not once, NOT once did they stocked the room mini bar! I had to mention the reservations and the mini bar problem because for me, those are cardinal sins. Over all, I give this RIU 3 1/2 stars, the staff makes up for any inconvenience we had."
