Mustard Hotel Shimokitazawa was a fantastic home base for our first few nights in Tokyo. The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and the location is great for those looking to be away from the crowds — Shimokitazawa is a great neighborhood that can at time be busy during the day but gets quiet in the evenings and overnight. The only thing to be aware of is that the rooms are on the small side, but in terms of value they are spot on. The complimentary breakfast at the cafe was fantastic and is a fantastic value.

EXCELLENT location for getting around, and food. Safe area. I will not hesitate to book this place again. Washer and dryer (in one) in the room with laundry detergent provided means that every night you can throw in your clothes before going to bed and when you wake up your clothes are dry - no pile up of dirty clothes and you can pack minimally.
No food at the hotel, that's the only downside.
Staff is good. Beds are comfortable. AC is cold. 4 of us stayed in the Japanese family room and the beds on the floor were comfortable. While staying here we made another booking to stay an extra week because we were so happy with it.

9.4/10 Exceptional! (404 reviews)
This is a really nice room. I only stayed for a couple days but I would have been very comfortable here for an extended stay.
The kitchen is very well equipped - you get a fridge, toaster, microwave, kettle, induction hob, pots, pans, rice cooker, cups (hot and cold), plates, bowls, utensils, even paper towels, and plastic wrap. The room also has an in-unit washer/dryer, and even a little vacuum. There's also a large table which was nice (many hotels, even aparthotels have tiny tables).
The room I had included a bunk and a couch, and a "king" sized bed (which is two twin mattresses stuck together, but that wasn't a problem). The bed was firm but comfortable.
The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is located in between Akihabara station and Asakusabashi station, so you'll be walking for a few minutes to get on the train. It's convenient to Senso-ji, Skytree, and Akihabara. There are also konbini's, a little grocery store, and plenty of restaurants nearby.

Property was clean, safe and close to food and transportation. (Self) Check in/out was emailed in advance and was easy. Pictures online made the living room look bigger, but our family of three made it work. Amenities in the shower (like modes of ventilation) and clothes washer were very useful to us.

"Lobby is nice and spacious. Room sizes are pretty good too for Tokyo standards but the rooms could use a facelift. Bubbling on walls can be seen."
