"We turned up at the hotel for a 3nights extended bank holidays weekend just to find out that the hotel was privatised and fully booked with nowhere to sleep in town or in the neighbouring villages !!! Owner refused to speak to Hotels.com since apparently he has only signed a contract with Expedia (but didn’t acknowledge it was the same company!) and refused to speak English... Hotels.com was not able to sort it out not find anywhere else and we had to drive back home 3hrs in the other direction...

Chambre d’hôtes le Prieuré de Fouchères

8/10 Good

"A Charming French Farmhouse with Potential Set in a beautiful, peaceful, village, this working farm has all the makings of a French dream. The accommodation seemed more of a homestay than a hotel. Our bedroom was clean, and the host was very friendly and welcoming. The communal breakfast was a highlight, with tea and coffee, a choice of cereals, homemade mini pancakes, fresh bread and delicious homemade jams. Despite this, we felt that our accommodation felt dated rather than quaint. The bathroom would benefit from refreshing/updating and the mismatched old style bedding on the two double beds felt tired and overlooked. More attention to detail would make a real difference and make this nice property really wonderful. One thing to note, they do not take card payments. The property has wonderful character and enormous potential. With some sympathetic updating while retaining its rustic charm, it could be a truly special place to stay. Overall, an enjoyable homestay with a warm welcome, a lovely setting and plenty of room for improvement."

10/10 Excellent

"It was relaxing to have a very big bed after a long day of travelling. The shower was easy to access & easy to use after we had worked out what to do with the shower gel, you squeeze it. Couldn't comment on meals, we didn't partake of any."

Hotel de Charme By Arts & Millésimes

8/10 Good

"The hotel stands on the hillside in a beautiful spot. It looks over the village and countryside. The room is a good side with views over the pool and was adequate for a one night stop. There was a lot of work going on around the pool, banging, sawing and music playing. The pool itself could do with a little work around the edges to improve the finishes as there were cracks and holes. Not many staff around but tt was pleasant. Breakfast was adequate and self service. Short walk to the village were there wwere a few places to eat. The house of Renoir was a lovely place to visist."

Château in Champagne, luxurious, very affordable, private for 1 Family /group

10/10 Excellent

"Great place with 7 rooms, some are of course nicer set up than others. The pool is lovely and heated. Some downsides like very limited towels and the hosts could be a little more relaxed about their attitude towards vacationers using the house and the tours. They no longer do chef at the house, but the dinner we got delivered was very nice and lots of food. Very close to lots of cute little champagne houses. They could also probably rehabilitate some of the rooms like the dining room to their former glory because right now it's not very pretty."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nicey?

The best area to stay in Nicey is the village centre, particularly around the Place de l'Église and Rue Principale.

This area is the heart of Nicey and offers a convenient base for exploring. It's a small, well-kept village with a focus on local life, featuring a few essential shops, a boulangerie, and a couple of traditional restaurants. The architecture is typical of Bourgogne, with stone buildings and narrow streets.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find the village centre ideal. It provides a quiet setting with opportunities for relaxed strolls through the vineyards that surround the village. The local restaurants offer a taste of regional cuisine, and you're well-placed for wine-tasting experiences right on your doorstep.

For those planning to explore the wider Bourgogne region by car, staying in the village centre offers good access to the main roads.

When is the best time to go to Nicey?

The best time to go to Nicey is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the vineyards are at their most picturesque. These periods offer comfortable temperatures for exploring without the peak summer crowds.

For those planning to experience the grape harvest, late September to early October is an ideal time. You'll see the region come alive with activity, and many wineries offer special tours and tastings during this period. The autumn colours in the vineyards are also particularly beautiful.

Summer, from July to August, is also a popular time, with warmer weather superb for enjoying outdoor activities and al fresco dining. However, it can be busier, and accommodation prices might be higher.
