Choose from fishing, surfing and bird-watching in this dynamic and peaceful headland suburb with a proud culture and a Tin City.

Stockton is a scenic peninsula and suburb straddling the Hunter River, the Fullerton Cove and the Pacific Ocean. It a residential area known for its sand dunes, pristine beaches and marshes. Stroll through the charming alleys of this serene area for a glimpse into local culture.

Notice the rows of 19th-century cottages flanking the narrow lanes of this sleepy suburb. Browse the stores on the main shopping street and people-watch from one of the cafés along the coast. Among the most intriguing buildings are the beach shacks of Tin City, built as a base for shipwrecked sailors.

Relax on the sandy haven of Stockton Beach on a warm, sunny day. Enjoy snacks and refreshments at the picnic shelters and bring the kids to the playground. Learn to surf on the waves and watch experts challenge the mighty ocean. You can stay overnight under the stars in the campsites of the Stockton Beach Tourist Park.

Practice your swing on the picturesque course of Newcastle Golf Club. Go fishing in the river or at Newcastle Harbour. Gaze up at the migratory wading birds soaring above the marshes of Hunter Wetlands National Park and the Kooragang Nature Reserve.

Learn about the life of local hero Dave Sands, who was a champion boxer after World War II. Several monuments are dotted around the area in memory of the boxer as well as the many shipwrecks that took place in the area.

Inspect the rusty remains of the Adolphe Shipwreck on the Stockton break wall. It is one of several old hulks that can be found on the Shipwreck Walk Breakwater. Snap photos of these old ships with a backdrop of Nobbys Head and its lighthouse across the water.

Stockton is on a headland in the northeastern part of Newcastle. Cross the Stockton Bridge by bus to one of the many stops on the peninsula or consider taking a ferry to get here. See nearby areas, such as Newcastle East, The Hill and the central Civic district.

The room was clean and well presentable. Lovely bathroom and shower. Staff were helpful and lovely. However, it has terrible smell one gets use to. The longer you stay it gets less noticeable.
