9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (70)
"My husband and I stayed just one night. The property obviously has so much history and character. The grounds are so beautiful. I can see it being an incredible place for weddings. The property is very clean and we had everything we needed. We slept very well. Unfortunately we couldn’t use the pool and tennis court like we wanted. September weather can be tricky for the pool with the leaves falling all the time. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Thank you very much. "

"The room was nice but a bit noisy. Well located for everything in town or for walking to the lake. Nice options for restaurants and everyone is friendly. My only issue was when we indicated not changing the bed linens and towels that meant our bed was not made and our dirty coffee cups and wine glasses were not replaced with clean ones. "

What is a historic hotel like in Nelson?
Historic hotels give guests the opportunity to stay in a building that has been officially recognised with a national historic designation. Historic hotels throughout the world can take the form of castles, stately homes, palaces or even pubs, lodges, old police stations or skyscrapers — any place of special interest. These types of hotels in Nelson often preserve original characteristics such as period features or traditional architecture in guestrooms or communal spaces.
What is the difference between a historic hotel and a heritage hotel?
The two are similar. The term “historic hotel” is more common in the U.S., whereas “heritage hotel” is common in Asia and Europe. Historic hotels tend to focus on the architecture and actual building. A heritage hotel draws meaning mainly from the cultural value that the place has and how it inspired the community.
Do historic hotels in Nelson have modern facilities?
Yes. Every effort is made to preserve treasured traditions and historic facades, but hotel interiors are fitted with modern conveniences and safety features. Guests should expect the popular amenities you’d get from a hotel such as private rooms with updated bathroom facilities, heating and air conditioning, and free and fast Internet. In Nelson, booking a historic hotel doesn’t mean you will stay in a place that’s uncomfortable for guests or simply rundown.
