About this property
Visit award winning wineries in our valley in tricked out Yurt on the NF River.
Our Yurt is a perfect winter sojourn. We are in a finite zone where the high deserts soar up into the Rocky Mountains. Thus, the wonderful small town of Paonia is temperate in winter, with access to the best winter sporting one direction and calming desert in the other. In Southwest Colorado 2 miles west of Paonia, is a Yurt nestled on a large wrap around redwood deck anchored by two mature Elms and is wonderful year round . and The building is situated in close proximity to the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The Yurt is a sanctuary far removed from neighbors and below the sight-line and activity of Highway 133.The property meanders above and below the Yurt for a quarter of a mile along the river’s edge. There are established wildlife corridors for Elk and Deer. Eagles, Red Tailed Hawks, and Blue Herons nest on the property or directly across the river. Robins routinely inhabit the trees directly above the sheltering Yurt. When entering the 700 square foot Yurt, a 14’ high skylight inset in a mad array of knotty Aspen, draws you to its center. Here the fireplace anchors the middle and the remaining amenities unwind to the outside of the circumference. Here there is full ADA kitchen and ADA bathroom, queen size bed, dining table, and sitting area. The surrounding river, mountains and cultivated farmland can be viewed ten different ways through 8 windows and 2 French doors. Think of a random compass point and there you will find a window framing your gaze. There is an openness seldom seen in standard structures. After rubbernecking for a while, your first coherent thought is, ‘I can relax here’. And the reality is, you can.

We enjoyed that tail end of winter, and the start of spring in just a couple night’s stay. The riverside, the hot tub, the fire, what a comfortable respite! We look forward to our next visit already!
This place is awesome! Great location right on the river, peaceful, relaxing, and a great place for a morning and evening stroll on the property to see wildlife
We really enjoyed our stay, it is so peaceful and relaxing! The property is really kept up nice. We love all the flowers
and trees. It is so nice to be able to bring our dog with us
too.
Peaceful and relaxing property, enjoy closeness to the river and the wildlife...mule deer, turkeys, fox. Perfect place to relax and enjoy Colorado. Hot tub and stars at night aren’t bad either!
This is a truly magical and unique stay. George and Devon assure your comfort. The yurt is beautiful and surrounded by stunning nature. From the deck, you can hear the river or go in the hot tub. Wineries nearby, great local food- it’s one of my favorite places on earth.
Our second time staying in this little slice of heaven was as incredible as our first visit. This place is a gem, well kept, private and a wildlife and bird sanctuary. The sound of nature - the birds and river flowing - absolutely soothes the soul. It is a perfect escape from the everyday world, and was an opportunity to completely unplug, relax and recharge. George is an absolute joy and made our stay even more special.
I booked this as a retreat for me following a hip replacement, a knee replacement and several eye surgeries following a detached retina. All within a short time of each other. It seemed perfect timing to celebrate some well being by getting away for a few days.
I found River Walk and knew it was for me! I could not be happier with the beauty, peace and serenity of being in a gorgeous yurt on the river. I hope to one day return!
Boy, did we have fun! I'm a five-year-old yellow Lab, and our parents took me and my older black Lab sister to George's yurt for five days. Every morning we got to run up and down the river and splash to our hearts' content. We got to see deer and a a big red fox and I flushed a pheasant (my favorite thing to do)!
Our parents must have really enjoyed it, as they were in a good mood the whole time. There is so much to do in the area, both for humans and dogs. We really enjoyed Paonia, a wonderful small town with a real sense of community that my dad said was like going back in time to the 1940s when rural America was the backbone of the nation. Lots of nice places to eat, although our parents didn't bring us any doggie bags. They selfishly ate it all for themselves.
We got to go across Grand Mesa and the really pretty Kebler Pass. Our parents stopped a lot to take pictures of all the bright gold aspen trees and my sister and I got to play a lot in the mountain lakes and sniff all kinds of interesting stuff.
We didn't enjoy all the wineries as much as our mom and dad did (they wouldn't give us any to taste), but that was OK because we got to watch all the wildlife and the really pretty sunsets over the river every night from the cool walkway from our yurt.
My sister and I think the yurt is the nicest place we have ever stayed. We are lobbying for a return trip. And for circular dog houses. We'll let you know how that goes.
Beautiful setting and scenery, loved the river walk. Great place to relax and unwind and enjoy the beautiful mountains and wildlife right outside the windows. Yurt is comfortable and cozy. We like it so much, we keep coming back year after year! Hosts are great!
Riverwalk Yurt is very clean and comfortable. The setting is beautiful and very relaxing. The hosts,Devon and George, couldn’t be nicer. Tom and I spent two wonderful weeks at the yurt. This was our second time staying at the yurt and we hope to be back again next year.
