This central area offers the most convenience for visitors. Hauptstraße is the main thoroughfare, lined with local shops, bakeries, and traditional German restaurants. For couples looking for a relaxed short break, staying in the town centre is ideal. It provides easy access to local eateries for evening meals and is a good base for gentle strolls through the town or along the nearby river. It allows for a comfortable and enjoyable experience without needing to travel far for amenities.

Solo travellers will also find the town centre a practical choice. It offers a sense of community and makes it easy to connect with local life.

The best time to visit Michelau is during the late spring and summer months, specifically from May to September, when the weather is at its most pleasant.

During these months, you can expect warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding natural beauty of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. This period is great for outdoor activities like hiking along the well-marked trails, cycling through the scenic landscape, or enjoying boat trips on Lake Edersee. The park's diverse flora and fauna are also at their most visible during these warmer months.

Families will find the summer particularly appealing due to the array of activities available at Lake Edersee, including swimming, paddleboarding, and other water sports. Many local attractions, such as the WildtierPark Edersee (wildlife park) and the TreeTop Walk, also have extended opening hours, offering more flexibility for family outings.
