The best area to stay in Mezkiritz is right within the village itself, as it's a compact and welcoming stop along the Camino de Santiago.

Mezkiritz is a small, traditional Navarrese village, primarily made up of a few streets with stone houses and a central church, the Church of San Cristóbal. It's located in a valley, surrounded by green hills, offering a tranquil setting. The village is small enough to walk around easily, with local guesthouses and a few eateries.

For walkers on the Camino de Santiago, staying directly in Mezkiritz is ideal. It provides a convenient and comfortable overnight stop, allowing for a good rest before continuing the journey. You'll find guesthouses offering practical amenities tailored for pilgrims, often including communal meals which are a great way to meet fellow travellers.

Couples looking for a peaceful rural escape will also find Mezkiritz appealing. The quiet surroundings and natural beauty are great for relaxing walks in the countryside and enjoying local Spanish hospitality away from larger towns.

The best time to visit Mezkiritz is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During spring, the weather is pleasantly mild, and the countryside is lush and green, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. This period avoids the intense heat of summer and the colder, wetter days of winter.

Autumn also offers agreeable temperatures and beautiful autumnal colours, particularly appealing for those who enjoy walking through the forests. The olive harvest often begins in late autumn, providing a chance to see local traditions.

For those interested in hiking the Camino de Santiago, which passes through Mezkiritz, both spring and autumn offer comfortable walking conditions without the crowds or extreme weather of peak summer.
