"We wanted to relax by the lake before school started. We had never booked a house through Hotels.com before, but I found a nice cabin that seemed to suit us perfectly. I was given a total price, entered my details, and to my surprise, some third-party company immediately charged me 10% more. This was never mentioned anywhere in the agreement or booking details. When we arrived, the trash bins outside the house hadn’t been emptied, and bears or other animals had scattered garbage all around. The company that charged us sent instructions with a door code, but it turned out to be the wrong one. Luckily, I reached out to their representative myself and got the correct code. The company, Evolve — their reviews are below zero. If I had known they were the intermediary, I would never have rented through them. As for the house itself — not bad overall, but with some major downsides. All the beds had strange and uncomfortable orthopedic mattresses. There was no basic split A/C system in the bedrooms (which is not expensive to install), and fans don’t help much in the heat. The patio cushions were all torn. The house is generally nice, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. If I were the owner, I would definitely switch to a different management company — these guys are useless."
