It was a great experience. Beautiful hotel built on a rock. The staff was amazing They are polite, attentive and ready to help you on anything. The view from the terrace where you can have breakfasts is incredibly beautiful and unique. The room was very comfortable with all our needs.

Fantastic Staff
When you show up soaking wet before checkin time, and you’re offered a coffee while they try to arrange early checkin, the hotel gets top marks before you see your room. But cave room 44 was warm and comfy. Great breakfast that you can take out on the balcony to enjoy the views. And drinks available to enjoy the sunset. Plenty info and maps. You can walk everywhere, but it is a lot of ups and downs on cobblestones. Because of the rain we opted to use the expensive parking just before the hotel. Works great if you plan to just park your car, as there are no in/out privileges, but it maxes out at 10E per calendar day.

Excellent location.
This is the best location to see Matera. You are close to the sights and and lots of restaurants to go to. The staff is very good and accommodating, plus the parking is a block away. The breakfast is plentiful and the view from the terrace amazing!!!

Awesome place. Wished we had stayed here a week. The view of matera and the gorge is spectacular and unrivalled. Sipping wine on the terrace at sunset was pure magic. Room was perfect. Breakfast was great. Staff are amazing. No free parking but reasonable. Probably my favourite B&B we stayed at out of 9 of them all over Italy. Great restaurants not far from hotel.

Absolute best view and service in Matera. The only other higher rated hotel does not have a view of the beautiful town but of the rocks in canyon. David was most helpful. Cave room was unique experience.

The view from the terrace onto the Sassi is fantastic. Breakfast is also very good. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The one thing that topped all of the above was the friendly and efficient service of the staff. They were super friendly and very helpful!

Wonderfully unique property - our room was a former cave...what an experience. Spotlessly clean, nice breakfast buffet with a spectacular view of the Sassi from the terrace. Simone and everyone there could not have been more accommodating or professional. Would stay there over any other place in Matera.

Great location, super convenient for us to drive up and park almost directly in front of the hotel for free (based on availability - we got lucky!). Stayed in a normal (not cave) room. Was very adequate, nothing more. Air con worked well, was super clean. Bed was very hard, with just one very flat pillow but was able to find more pillows in a drawer. Breakfast was good. They have some interesting COVID protections in place which were a bit awkward, but we managed. The terrace views were great. All in all a very good stay. Forgettable room, great terrace view.

In a word--AWESOME
Absolutely AMAZING and highly recommended place. The property itself is great, the cave room I stayed in was beyond adorable, and the view is everything it is cracked up to be--a view you can enjoy while having an absolutely amazing breakfast! The location is pretty good in the old town and quite walkable. Everything worked as it should (from a/c to good water pressure to wifi). No complaints and I absolutely would book again (and I do hope to return there b/c this city is amazing)!

Il belveredere located off main road, easy access if compared to staying in the centre of sassi with so many steps to climb. The terrace view where you can have your breakfast is really spectacular. The staff are helpful. Overall hotel is clean. Breakfast is adequate but average, coffee is lukewarm, which to me is a letdown, a piping hot cup of coffee shows that the host care. The room given to me was a big disappointment.there was a step down a small rounded empty space in the room which to me serves no purpose, I cannot put my luggage or use it, cos the ceiling was so low, in fact it was use to put a 'humidifier' a whirring machine that I had to ask the staff to come n switch off at 9.30 at night.my husband had a tumble down the level to this space, lucky he was not injured. My bed was parellel n right next to the bathroom which had a transparent door. The window open out to the common space outside, worse, the morning after I arrive, someone was smoking right outside, turns out to be a smoking zone cos I saw a pit w sand which I presume to be for snuffing out cigarettes?Looking in the window you can see me lying on my bed.. I don't like totally enclosed space, and had requested for a room with a window. And I am totally upset to be given a room like that.

The hotel is part of The Sassi so the room was partially carved into the rock. This brings tremendous character and a unique feel. The view from the rear of the property is jaw dropping at first sight. Aside from the majestic scale of the gorge the views of the cave dwellings and the old town take you back several centuries.

Wonderful holiday stay in Matera
As described, we felt like we were staying in a cave (a nice one) with modern amenities. The location could not be better with a fabulous view and an easy walk to all historic areas of the town. Staff was friendly and readily answered our questions. Breakfast was a typical cold Italian breakfast in a breakfast area. It was a great stay and wonderful means of getting a feel of Matera.
