The pretty fishing village of Marina di Puolo on the Massa Cape coastline is famous for its sandy beach, one of the best in the area. Its proximity to the centre of Sorrento makes it a perfect choice for a half-day excursion or a pleasant lunchtime or evening trip. The short journey of around 4 kilometres is well worth doing on foot. The route passes fragrant-smelling lemon orchards and shady olive groves before reaching the coast, where you will suddenly come upon spectacular views across the beautiful Bay of Naples to the iconic outline of Mount Vesuvius, still an active volcano. The going is steep in parts, but should be easily manageable by most regular walkers.Once you reach Marina di Puolo, make straight for the beach to rest your weary bones. You can indulge in a little luxury with a rented sun lounger and umbrella, or just stretch out on the warm sand. The sea here is very shallow, so it is safe for youngsters and inexperienced swimmers, although confident swimmers may find they have to wade out a long way to find water deep enough for a decent swim. There are plenty of cafés selling snacks and drinks to enjoy on the beach, as well as public toilets, changing rooms and showers available for a small fee.Marina di Puolo is one of the best places to enjoy freshly caught seafood, and it’s a popular hangout for local diners. Stay for the evening and watch the sun set over the bay while perusing the menu from your beachside table – the perfect romantic end to your day.Marina di Puolo is situated between Capo di Sorrento and Capo di Massa, around 4 kilometres west of the Marina Grande in Sorrento. If you prefer to make the journey by public transport, catch a bus from the Piazza Tasso and ask to get off at Hotel Dania. From there the beach is a short walk through an orchard the route is indicated by a glazed tile on the roadside. Pay parking is available near the road above the village.
