9 mins walk from the station staff are wonderful Nothing to much trouble- room really cosy sleep wonderful like being at home.small hotel pub but I love this - 18 above quality time few drinks and lots of old fashioned games like guess who etc. perfect for university first visit opening day has the bus stop right outside to the university bus 1 or 1A the university is not in walking distance about 45mins walk Hotel /pub bar perfect for has in the city centre

A hidden gem! Clean, comfortable and with great character, I'm really glad I found this hotel - only a 15 minute walk from the train station and five minutes walk from my morning destination - and would highly recommend it. Very friendly welcome when I arrived, clear instructions about how to get in and out of the property if I had wanted to go out later in the evening after the bar had shut.

4th time staying here and will always recommend . Staff go above and beyond and property , bar area and rooms really nice . We always book superior room due to size and would say room 1 that we have just stayed in was the best

Comfortable But Very Expensive
Comfortable and clean. It does however seem very expensive (£150 per night) and did not include the little touches of luxury which might be expected for this type of luxury price.

Absolutely fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend. Free breakfast items like cereal and fruit available 24 hours if you feel like snacking. Incredibly friendly staff. Superb instructions on how to check in after hours. Great location.

Great hotel!
Our stay in The Royal hotel was top class. It was very clean, the bed was large and comfortable. The TV was the largest that I have ever had in a hotel room, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My only criticism would be that there was a large mirror directly opposite the bed. So every time I sat up in the bed I was confronted with my own ugly mug! Seriously though, one of the best places I have ever stayed. 10/10.

Hi Ian, All reservations are for room only which is clear at time of booking, a quick look on any booking sites or our website and you can see that we are quite transparent about the fact we don't serve food. We do however, have an option for guests to order wood fired pizza from a local pizzeria straight to your table from 5pm each evening (excluding Sundays). As all bookings on are on a room only basis, we do provide some complimentary breakfast items for guests midweek, and you can pay for a cooked breakfast on the weekends, but as you stayed midweek it would be a shame if you didn't take advantage of those free items!I can assure you, your card details were not 'copied' but stored against your booking via the secure payment system Stripe. This is merely to cover our non smoking and damage policy and is common place for any hotel when card details aren't provided to the hotel with a booking. This is also made very clear in the automated infomation sent to all guests at time of booking, as it is hotel policy. We prefer not to have to take damage deposits from our guests, as that wouldn't be fair to the 99.9% of guests who don't incur such charges. The historic city of Lancaster is often described as many things; 'mini york', 'quaint', some have even said 'the jewel of the North West', but rough is certainly a new one for us and one that we, most definitely do not agree with. Lancaster has a lot of fascinating history, architecture, independent businesses and wonderful events made possible by many people who work very hard to make this a safe and wonderful place to live and visit.

Sadly the outside of the hotel was a total mess as multiple black binsacks had been ransacked by seagulls. I know this happens, but the mess was there for at least 18 hours that I could see and that's a shame as the inside and service were great - I'm sure the bin incident isn't a daily occurrence, but for me, it was real sadly

Hi Nigel, thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm sorry to hear that the rubbish outside has put a damper on your otherwise enjoyable stay in our hotel. Sadly, this has come from the property adjacent to our building and we are currently engaged in conversations with Lancaster City Council and the building management to come to a better solution for their waste disposal that doesn't impact or affect our guests. We at the Royal are dedicated to upholding immaculate standards of cleanliness and hygiene within and around the areas surrounding our venue as we know how important it is for the welfare and enjoyment of our guests. Our staff regularly go out to double check the area (even though it is not our waste) and to clean it if necessary. We do hope you come and see us again in the future and many thanks for the feedback!

Great find!
Gorgeous, super clean, spacious room with modern, quality furnishings. Lovely staff. Grab n go breakfast a real bonus and we visited the Brew cafe (which was lovely) using the discount card we received at check in. Great location and handy payable carpark at v reasonable cost (£2 6pm-8 am or £9.50 for the 24h rover ticket to use at other car parks). The castle was great and Ashton’s memorial in Williamson park had amazing views. Loved the butterfly house there too. Enjoyed the city museum in market square and the flower bowl entertainment centre near Preston was fab too! Delicious “happy hour” meal at Spaghetti house round the corner was perfect for laid back family meal for us.

A fantastic stay
We had a lovely stay I have never slept in a bed as big and comfortable. The room was perfect a good size and very clean. I liked the fact that we had a separate entrance to the bar and the breakfast station was a great idea and much appreciated. Location was excellent we couldn’t have asked for better in the centre but in a quiet area. We would definitely stay here again

Pleasant stay
Friendly service from when we got there. Lovely clean, warm room. All fixtures in good nick. Buffet breakfast was a nice touch. Bar clean and fairly priced.

Top notch accommodation
Warm welcome, room was clean, fresh and well decorated. Bed was extremely comfortable. Location excellent. Breakfast was convenient and certainly adequate. We would highly recommend staying here.
