Ryokans in Kansai Region

Wonderful experience, great location, friendly lovely hosts.

The property was excellent, the staff were lovely, the breakfast was delicious, and it was very conveniently located. Great place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay. The 108 year old Ryokan was beautiful and authentic but with modern facilities such as the much needed air conditioning (37 deg C days during our stay). Our room was a large family room with a cupboard for our luggage, a table to sit at and 4 futons and overlooking the inner court garden. The traditional shower and hot bath (wooden) plus a western variety operated on a booking in-times system which seemed to work well, and despite the hot days , a hot bath was a...

The hospitality, the property and the food were exceptional! If you have the opportunity to take the dinner and breakfast option, I would highly recommend it, absolutely fabulous! This is a great property for those wanting to submerge themselves into Japanese culture.

Absolutely stunning experience, and one of the highlights of our time in Japan. Outstanding food, beautiful lodgings, good location, fantastic service - no complaints at all.

You never know which one to go with when scrolling through the countless options on the Internet, but we are very glad we stayed at Asukasou. The people were genuinely friendly and helpful and the room was really nice - the best futon I've ever slept on! There is an open air rooftop bath that is a must do if you stay here. Be warned: those travelling with English only may have trouble finding this inn as the sign (I think) was only in Japanese.

We stayed here for 2 nights, enjoyed every second of it, staff are extremely helpful, they came and pick us up af Arima Onsen station, arrived within 5 minutes of the call, staff welcomed us in the hotel with some small snack and cold tea, whilst the receptionist were explaining everything to us, our luggages were carried to our room. We booked our first private bath, extremely comfortable and private. There are public bathing as well, dinner and breakfast are also served in private dining...

Our stay was one of the highlights of our time in Japan. From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm, refined, and thoughtfully designed — a perfect contrast to the busy pace of travel. The property itself is beautifully maintained, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly peaceful, with a layout that made it easy to relax as a family. Traveling with a young child, we especially appreciated how accommodating and welcoming...

The staff were so friendly and helpful, we loved the traditional breakfast, they were accommodating to my husband who can’t eat fish. They have a courtesy bus that takes you to Arashiyama which I didn’t know and so glad they suggested. The futons are hard but I got used to them. They also said their onsen is tattoo friendly. But most of the place is in such a spectacular forest it was so pretty in the late autumn I will definitely be going back.

View and breakfast quality

Really lovely traditional stay in Kyoto. Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming throughout our stay, and the room was immaculate. We also appreciated the small things like a new local treat and tea each day.

This is a charming ryokan run by an industrious husband-and-wife team. The husband opens up at 6:30 AM; the wife locks the doors at 11:00 PM. Unless you’re a night-owl, this probably won’t be a problem. The building is old, but in very good repair and the rooms are clean and simple. No WiFi in the rooms, but there is access to a Kyoto City WiFi point in the foyer. (IMO, it adds to the ryokan experience to have no internet in the rooms.) The futons were comfortable, though made for a firm sleep,...

We liked the traditional accomodation and breakfast, great onsen facilities and central location.

The hotel room is spacious and beautifully decorated. It provides excellent amenities including a public bath, though we didn’t use, and great breakfast. It's located in a quiet part of Kyoto but with easy access to metro and walkable to the busy shopping area, imperial palace and niji castle.

Our stay was beautiful and a fantastic experience as a family to get a small taste of traditional Japanese culture. Everything from sleeping on futons to sitting on tatami mats to our own private onsen made for a memorable stay . Thank you so much for having us and I will be highly recommending this accommodation to family and friends .

We stayed in the Japanese Room, Private Bathroom (For 2 Guests) and upon entering the level of service from the hotel staff was amazing! The room itself was quite large considering how other Japanese hotels were much smaller, felt good to have more room to breath and relax. The public bath that is at the bottom floor of the hotel was great. The only regret is that we only stayed one night, it would have been ideal to stay here longer and enjoy Kyoto more.
