Originally built as a saloon around 1888, the Mail Pouch Building takes its name from the charming tobacco sign which graces its western wall. Restored in 1994, the sign wall is a colorful reminder of the days when sign painters toured the country covering barns and buildings with their handiwork.
Today, the building houses a unique gift and craft shop called The Crafty Peddler. Home of the 6½ ft. Cigar Store Indian carved by a local artist, this craft shop also has folk art, baskets, pottery, jewelry, home and garden décor, and Christmas creations year round.
Painted around 1895, the sign itself is made up of two parts: the lower portion, advertising Mail Pouch Tobacco, processed by Bloch Bros. of Wheeling, West Virginia. The upper portion is an advertisement for Augustus B. Cummings, who was a local businessman and possibly one of the inventors of the first plow. This portion is called a privilege panel, and was traditionally given to the building’s owner or occupant as compensation for allowing the tobacco company to paint their sign on the building.

"Breakfast was only a choice of waffles, or biscuits n gravy. There was also cereal or toast available. It was not very good tasting. Orange juice was great, but the coffee, (once i could seperate out a cup, and not use a stack of 6 to drink-- a big challenge.) It gave me such bad gas, it was rediculous. Breakfat area was very clean though. Not very friendly staff, gave minimal interaction, and never saw anyone even hint at a smile. Even though i had requested extra pillows in online check in, i still had to ask twice after getting there. So why have the request available in online check in. Bed was not the most comfortable, but i have had worse. Room was located in a spot easy to get to with the wheelchair, thank you. Room was clean, quiet, (except when someone got ice out in the hall LOL) and spacious. "

"I noticed several young people arguing...they may have been drinking or using something. The lock on my door couldn't be locked from the inside.Someone had used som air freshener rather than cleaning and my husbajnd has asthma. i decided not to stay. I booked thru Experian or similar and they had no record of my reservation. "
