Only place to stay and eat within 15 miles of Inverness, so no competition, pricey and poorly maintained. Rooms looked like newly refurbished, very comfy beds, shower room ok, no place to hang stuff or put toiletries. Door security poor, only a key lock, no security chain. Public areas like work in progress, exposed plaster in hallway, wallpaper missing, stairs very dark, bar area lacks character - restaurant has tables that have seen better days, chairs with the upholstery pealing away, the conservatory with varnish pealing, in desperate need of a paint.. Outside looks uncared for, weeds over pathway, broken stones and walls - Parking is PUBLIC parking in an area outside the Inn shared with locals (it's popular as no where else to go) so be careful if you have a Hire Car with no Damage waiver. Place seems to be run by proxy - no management on site, place run by a very lovely group of girls who do their best - good luck getting a complaint resolved. Has soo much potential, but misses the mark on this occasion.
Our experience at Tuckers Inn was rather underwhelming overall. It quickly became apparent that the ground-floor pub and restaurant are the main focus of the business, with the accommodation upstairs feeling like a bit of an afterthought to bring in extra income.
Check-in was very transactional: we were simply handed a key and given a vague wave towards the stairs to find the room ourselves, with no basic orientation or info provided. We even had to head back down to the bar later just to ask for the Wi-Fi password.
Parking is another significant issue. There is no dedicated parking for overnight guests, only on-street parking opposite the pub along a very narrow dead-end road. It feels quite risky leaving a car there, as the road is so tight that scratches or scrapes from passing traffic seem very likely. On arrival, there were no available spaces anywhere near the entrance, so we had to park quite a distance away and haul our heavy luggage down the street.
The room itself was quite tired, dark, and dated. While the essentials were technically there, comfort and ambience were lacking. The biggest drawback was being situated directly above the kitchen. The kitchen extraction fan produced a loud, constant humming right up until 8:30 PM, which made relaxing difficult. Worse still, persistent cooking smells: burnt food and frying oil drifted directly into our room throughout the evening.
On a positive note, the morning experience was much better. Breakfast was genuinely lovely,
Lovely B&B in a bar/restaurant. Newly refurbed. The decor in the room was lovely and everything was very clean. Lobby area quite dated but the sea views and lovely breakfast make up for that.
The hotel was absolutely fabulous. The staff were very professional and pleasant to be around. Our room was very modern and well established. Clean and comfortable. Definitely would stay there again if in the area.
