Rugged coastlines, an island chain and migrating whales are some of the sights you can experience on boat trips from this port in the village of Stamsund.

Hurtigruten Ferry Terminal Stamsund is a port on the island of Vestvågøy in the Lofoten archipelago. It’s a great place to watch cruise ships dock, dine at waterfront cafés and enjoy relaxed walks. The terminal is also the starting point for dozens of excursions along the Norwegian coast and out to sea.

Sea outings range greatly in duration, from 1-hour journeys to overnight trips. Head to sea for a tour of the Lofoten Islands. Go on a whale-watching safari and see humpback and orcas at close range. Book a boat trip to Tromsø, a popular destination for viewing the northern lights.

The voyages are on board a variety of modern ships such as MS Vesterålen, MS Polarlys and MS Finnmarken. These vessels feature panoramic lounges, sun decks and restaurants. Some boast Jacuzzis, saunas and fitness rooms.

Even if you don’t plan on going to sea, come down to the terminal to view the ships as they depart and return. You can do this from a number of cafés and bars around the waterfront. The area is particularly atmospheric during winter evenings, when the lights from buildings and ships are reflected in the water.

Hurtigruten Ferry Terminal Stamsund is a short walk from the center of Stamsund. If you have just arrived by boat, make a point of stopping by the village to enjoy some of its attractions. Every May, the village hosts the Stamsund International Theatre Festival, a family-friendly event with theater performances and workshops.

Fishing enthusiasts might want to rent boats and equipment from the village. The waters around Stamsund and Lofoten are famous for their large numbers of cod, most notably during the winter spawning season between January and April.
