"Wonderful Makarora Lodge - how can it be called wonderful? Do not stay here! Arrived April 27, 2028 approx 5:30 pm for a one night stay. Staff gone, picked up the two folded papers w/keys from reception area showing # of two chalets. Nothing has been done to the inside of the chalets for many many years. Mold on wood in room as you open the door on the right bottom wall. Very dirty stained carpet inside entrance, Only 1/8 - 1/4 inch of the roll of toilet paper in bathroom. Soap dispenser in shower was empty. Bathroom sink did not have a stopper so difficult to wash face or hands; you either had to use cold water or hot water (which of course would burn you). Took ~12 photos of interior. Some windows were left a little open when I arrived to chalet. Thank you, FFW"

"Really enjoyed our stay! The apartment felt modern and new, with everything thoughtfully set up for a comfortable visit. Its location close to town made it easy to explore and get around without any hassle. The staff were fantastic — not only friendly and welcoming, but they also shared great local tips that helped us make the most of our trip. Would happily stay here again!"

"The room had open floor plan with all the amenities needed for a family. They had laundry and a play area for kids. Nice option for families, especially if on the road for a long time."

"Fantastic place. We had a 2 bedroom apartment with living room (2 sofas) and full kitchen. Washing machine and a drier. A patio with chairs and table, big bathroom, great shower, heated towel rail. Views from main bedroom and living room to the mountains and lake. Netflix on the large TV. This was a perfect stop off on a long road trip of the South Island. Wish we’d had more than just 2 nights here. Can’t believe what great value this was. We had a ground floor room so you do get a little noise from above (didn’t affect us) but you can request a 2nd floor apartment. I’d definitely recommend it, so much space and everything looked new. Great staff too. Wanaka is a nice little town. Eat at Big Fig for super fresh cooked food."
