The
Lightwell is a wonderful little hotel in a great location. Easy walk to all of downtown Hood River. Everything was clean, well taken care of with friendly staff. Rooms are small with no onsite parking, however parking was close.
I stayed in the room for business reasons. The staff were amazing, the room was clean and the hotel had a great vibe. I would return if Im in the area again!
Getting in the property through the main door can be challenging (steps and doors are in the way when you are carrying luggage) but we found out that there a door on the side which is a lot easier to get in. Overall very nice, the room was some smaller than expected. We had a nice time at the spa. Definitely recommended if you stay in Hood River.
Excellent space- clean & classy! Perfect location that’s walking distance to all the best things in downtown Hood River.
The hot tub/spa area is an amazing bonus.
Relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Friendly, welcoming staff. Smooth and easy checking. Room was super clean with a scenic river view. Highly recommend this new (with old world charm) hotel in one of our favorite spots in all of Oregon.
Enjoyed the hot tub the most. Room was small but expected in a historic building. Room was clean and modern. Loved the shower head…so much we bought one on-line. Loved all the local shops within walking distance of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again. Not disappointed.
Small, noisy but comfortable rooms. Very minimal no fridge, microwave or bench/chair. Great spot to access downtown Hood River.
At checking we were handed our key cards and they said have a good stay. No instructions of when pool, sauna was open. No instructions about when and where coffee was an available. We were able to take our own drinks up to the roof top because it is not open for drinks or food yet.
This is a perfect property for a couples get away or a family with children over the age of 16. Unfortunately I’m neither. We did a late check in and had a hard time finding parking in front of the hotel. Our room was very very small and the bed was too firm. Unfortunately the sound down the hall and the neighboring rooms was too loud. I left the property feeling very tired and sore. We are thankful for the help unloading our luggage and for the cleanliness of the room. Hopefully at a later time we can enjoy the spa benefits on their own.

While charming and the spa was nice, our stay here left something to be desired. First, the room smelled like kitty litter, not really sure why. Second, the room featured a mini-split for heating/cooling which was appreciated since the small room easily got too warm at night even in April (and the it was too noisy outside to leave the window open). But the AC was aimed directly at our heads as we slept, which made sleeping difficult. (Already a challenge thanks to the couple arguing in the next room until 1am, and loud music from the bar across the street). Not the worst stay, and staff were nice, but next time we’ll probably try a different hotel.
We were THRILLED to know that the hotel was finally open and available for an overnight during our Thanksgiving travels. There were the obligatory minute challenges with it being so newly opened during our visit but the service and hospitality far outweighed any inconvenience we encountered. The hotel is absolutely wonderful from top to bottom and the investment in everything from the outside bricks to the gorgeous tile was very obvious. We were disappointed in a few aspects of our stay such as the spa/hot pool not yet being available but the beautiful building, wonderful staff, service, and atmosphere more than made up for that.

Very new and very clean. Bar staff was top notch. The rooms were boiling hot and managment has the thermostats locked to heat only. Each room has its own split system so it makes no sense to have them locked...made the night unbearable with no sleep.

Love this new spot in Hood River! They were less than two months old when I stayed, so they were still working on some things, but nothing too annoying.
The lobby/bar/basecamp were very nice. Lots of options for seating and lounging. As other reviews mentioned, the rooms are quite small, but the common areas made up for it. And it was still enough space to lounge and watch TV. You're supposed to be out and about anyways!
The hot tub and sauna were great. The area was really cool with the exposed rock. Only a couple other people were in there, so it felt peaceful. I really wish they had a cold plunge though, that really would have made it perfect.
I was worried about noise since I've stayed in Hood River many times and the train and noise from the street can be very loud. I called them before coming in to get a recommendation for the quietest rooms and they did not disappoint! Our room was on the top-floor and south-facing, so it was away from the train and the street. No complaints!
Already excited for my next trip back!
While I understand the hotel is new and working out some kinks, it was disappointing to know that after booking the spa and rooftop bar would not be open. Additionally, while the hotel has great aesthetics, the insulation is poor. We heard noise from all angels in our 3rd floor room. We heard hallway noise, we heard street noise, we heard noise from our neighbors in the other room, and we had to complain about the music vibrating from the lobby at 11 pm at night. Based on the insulation issues, we did not get the rest we went to get on our weekend getaway.
Overall, the staff were great and we enjoyed the food and service at the lobby bar. So, while we don’t intend to stay there again, we would go back to chill at the lobby bar and check out the spa and rooftop when it opens.
Some people are going to adore this place. The amenities and newness are beautiful, it's a great location, and everyone was so nice, and they left us a bottle of sparkling wine in our room upon check in - thank you!
That being said... It is a boutique hotel, newly renovated building, but it's obvious the rooms are maximized for quantity, which really gives up on comfort. We got a king alley room (which isn't event he smallest sqft) and you could barely move around the bed, if we'd had more than weekend backpacks, IDK what we would have done. There is no bathroom fan or window. There is no room fan, and the minisplit is set to not allow air circulation (only hot or freezing air). The window is a foot from the bed so when it's below 40 out, we wouldn't sleep with the it open. I beg the developers to sleep here for a night and think about how people actually live.
Great location in downtown HR with a wonderful spa and rooftop bar.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lightwell. The spa is amazing, the staff friendly and helpful, and the rooms clean. We also loved that there is a lounge, a rooftop bar, and the hotel is conveniently located. Just be aware that the rooms are smaller than usual and there are no refrigerators in the rooms. But this is our new favorite place to stay in Hood River!
