"Decent place decent price"

"This is an excellent place to stay overnight on a trip to Scotland located just off the A74 near Gretna Green. The main business is for weddings with lots of rooms for guests. it was very quiet when we stayed - we were the only guests! The food from the main menu was excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. BUT it is not really a place to stay for more than 2 nights. It is more of a motel than a hotel. Breakfast finishes at 9am and dinner orders at 8.30pm If you are staying for more than 1 night you will have to ask for your room to be cleaned though fresh linen is provided daily."

"This is one of those reviews that I hate writing, because Springkell is wonderful and I don't want everyone to know about it :) The staff were amazing and extremely helpful and kind. We stayed for one night and arrived at midday, had a lovely walk round the beautiful grounds and then spent a couple of hours in Annan where a lot of the cafes and shops are also pet friendly. Back at Springkell had a nice dinner and early night. Breakfast was great too. Will definitely be staying there again if travelling between the South of England and Northern Scotland."

"We recently stayed for an overnight at the Smiths Hotel to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, returning to Gretna Green where we were married 35 years ago. We were allocated one of the newly refurbished rooms at the front of the hotel, which was spotlessly clean and modern. The lounge and bar areas are freshly decorated with plenty of seating, including outdoor seating. We would highly recommend eating at the restaurant as the food was delicious. I enjoyed the Lamb and my husband had the steak, he said it was cooked to perfection. Hats off to the chef and staff as despite a large football function and another larger table at the time we were dining it did not have an impact on the quality of food or the level of service provided by the staff. The staff are a credit to the hotel. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the Blacksmiths shop and visitor centre. The village centre is a short walk away and there is also an outlet village with shops close by. Carlisle is only about a 15min drive away. We would not hesitate to recommend Smiths hotel if you are looking for a hotel in the area."
