Lakeside Hotel & Spa

10/10 Excellent

"I enjoyed my stay at the hotel so much I intend to return. The hotel, the gardens and its location on edge of Lake Windermere are wonderful. Fortunately for us the heat wave that affected the country at the end of May meant that we didn’t use the car but instead relaxed in the beautiful gardens, went on short walks or just watched the steamers come and go from the nearby landing. In the early morning sunshine the calmness of the lake is simply magical. Less complimentary reviews that said the place was ‘tired’ and in need of updating are unfounded in my opinion and given that it was originally a 17th century coach house that has been extended over the years makes it more appealing. The ‘green’ credentials of the hotel are also to be applauded - I noticed some rewilding with a wild flower meadow, a bug hotel and beehives. I can’t say I’ve ever seen those at other hotels."

"It was disappointing that the hydrotherapy pool was closed for maintenance/repairs for part of our stay. The staff were friendly but our safe was locked for our entire stay and they were unable to unlock it for us. There were a number of niggles which we wouldn’t have expected from a hotel at this star rating, such as the leaking sink, basic toiletries and lumpy pillows. The cooked breakfast was not available at the beginning of breakfast service despite booking the 7.30 time slot. However, great location, comfortable bed and excellent food."

"A lovely hotel in the heart of Ambleside. Our balcony room was in an annexe just a few steps from the main hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the outdoor jacuzzi in the spa was a lifesaver in the immense heat we have just had. The food in the restaurant was lovely, breakfast was a continental buffet and hot from the menu and the dinner choice was very good and well priced."
