The sculptural glass façade of Reykjavík’s premier concert hall and conference center shines over the harbor, reflecting the water and the city’s energy.

Experience the masterful design and outstanding facilities of one of Reykjavík’s modern landmarks at the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center. Opened in 2011, this contemporary structure hosts recitals, performances, exhibitions and conferences. See touring musicians or a fascinating exhibit by local artists. Attend an all-access guided tour or simply wander along the harbor taking in each aspect of the exceptionally designed building.

Harpa’s magnificent design is the result of collaboration between Danish Henning Larsen Architects, Icelandic Batteríið Architects and the acclaimed artist Olafur Elíasson. Approaching the concert hall from Reykjavík’s waterfront, you’ll see the geometrically shaped building’s glass panels shimmering in the light. Note the visual links that connect the building’s angular designs with Iceland’s breathtaking natural landscapes and mesmerizing Arctic light.

Enter the building to explore its glassy interior and check out views across the mirror-like waters of the harbor. Resident performers in Harpa’s magnificent halls include the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Icelandic Opera and the Reykjavík Big Band.

You don’t have to book a recital or performance at one of Harpa’s four concert halls to see the building’s stunning interior. Join a guided tour and explore areas that are usually only accessible to performers. Emerge from the backstage area to the spotlight in Eldborg, Harpa’s main hall. Learn the stories of Harpa’s construction and history or capture photographs of the building’s interior and stunning lookouts.

Complete your trip to Harpa with a visit to the concert hall’s café, restaurant or bar. Have a sumptuous supper after the show or a drink from the bar’s extensive wine list. Harpa also features an intriguing gift and homewares store, which stocks beautiful items from Scandinavian and European designers.

Guided tours of Harpa are in English and take approximately 45 minutes. Purchase tickets to performances, exhibitions and tours at the box office on the first floor. Geysirland is a helpful tourist information center located in Harpa’s first basement level. It offers information about local events, activities, accommodations, car rentals and sightseeing itineraries. Don’t miss seeing Harpa from the pretty Reykjavík Harbour, which also has a waterfront dining and shopping precinct.
