Great hot spas (there are 2 inside and also outdoor) and nice Japanese style room, with all the amenities. The staff is super nice and friendly, they even gave us a ride to the station, because taxi service was not available. Well worth the experience!

Onsen was beautiful and a great experience, beds were comfortable and good room sizes. Walking from the station is not recommended, especially if you have luggage. Room quality/fittings were okay. No views but the ground are peaceful. Overall, not quite the value for money.

Perfect Onsen experience
We had an amazing time. We booked the deluxe family suite with our own bathroom and it was plenty of space for 7 people (5adults, 2kids). We also booked the half board and got breakfast and dinner every day which I highly recommend. It was not only delicious but also a lot of food! The private onsen was amazing and we didn’t have a problem getting the times we wanted. It was clean, hot and relaxing. There are two ways to get to the ryokan from Gora. One is with taxi, it’s 600yen and about a 5min ride. The other way is by taking the train to Koen Kami then walking 6mins to the ryokan. The walk is very easy. We took the taxi when we had luggage but then walked when we were exploring. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We celebrated a birthday and they went out of their way to get us a cake. The hotel was also kid friendly with toys that you can take to the room. One women at the front desk spoke perfect English. Will definitely be coming back

It was a very humble and calming stay. The baths were amazing and the rooms are gorgeous. I would recommend trying to get the breakfast or dinner to minimize having to go out for every meal. The town, Gora is awesome but is a ‘sleepy’ town and not everything is open when you want it to be. I recommend a stay here for anyone wanting a quieter Japan experience that’s within reach of Tokyo

Definitely get a cab to the hotel from Gora station when you have luggage for 609 yen. Note there might be no one there to greet you if you arrive earlier then 4pm and wanna leave your luggage before check in. Traditional Japanese style breakfast and dinner recommended to try for one day and you can go out to eat for the other days. Friendly staff, had a great time there!

Incredible Onsen (Private)
It was an amazing place. They have 3 onsens including 1 sauna and 2 outdoors onsens. You have to book the onsen time slot and you get it for 50mins for you and your family or friends like private. The staff are super nice and really helpful. They also have lots of games for kids so makes it even better for family with young kids. Gora has nothing for food after 4pm and there's only 1 combini nearby station. So make sure you bring the food and all the necessities.

My family had a one-night stay in Hakone on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto, and were interesed in a hot springs and ryokan experience. We opted to stay at Ajisai Onsen Ryokan since it offered that experience while also being near places that we wanted to sightsee in the area. During our stay, our room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, and the hot springs were straightforward to reserve and so relaxing to enjoy for our group. The food was pretty decent and very filling for dinner and breakfast, especially since we knew that dining options were scarce in the evenings where things shut down early in Hakone. The staff were also friendly and helped us with questions that we had. Overall, there seems to be quite a bit of good ryokans in Hakone, and I would recommend this one as one of those options.

The stay was simply amazing. We booked the Japanese style room and were a bit afraid to sleep on the futons, but it was really great. The onsen is very clean, and the staff is extremely nice. We had a half board, which I highly recommend as it worth every penny (it’s delicious and very generous portions !). One tip, the ryokan is not far from Gora station but the walk is quite steep, plan a cab ride! (On the way back you can easily walk as it’s going downhill)

We loved having a traditional ryokan/onsen experience. We booked a traditional Japanese room with mattress on the floor. Wonderful for one night, but I’ll be happy to sleep in a bed. The private indoor/outdoor onsen (one of three) was very relaxing and peaceful. The staff are very kind and speak some English.

The staff were amazing. Get the half board for breakfast and dinner for a full experience. Private onsens are such a nice way to relax. The outdoor onsen was my favourite. We stayed in an western style room and were treated with an tempur mattress. A hidden gem.

good traditional ryokan with private bathing onsen (private bathing) which was a great experience for the family. Hakone is a large area, so being in Gora you are in the middle of this peaceful part of Japan. 3x Nobu restaurants within 10min walk must be a record! We stayed 2 nights but could have stayed 4 as there was lots to do.

Friendly and accommodating staff. And very cool experience overall. Onsens are all private, which was nice, and they were easy to book last minute. It is a hike uphill from the train station so with luggage, taxi is really required for transit. We did also need to do our own research on what to do in the area bc staff did not give much guidance, but it was easy enough to figure out. Room itself was peaceful and clean.

This place is magical. It’s nestled into the mountains of HaKone. There are three separate private Onsen that you sign up for and get it all to yourself for an hour at a time! I got the traditional Japanese dinner & breakfast and the whole experience was incredible!

There are 3 options for onsen--2 include outdoor baths. We opted to include breakfast and it was gorgeous and delicious. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Location was a bit off the main area but easy to get to and lovely. We had a wonderful stay!

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at, the location was terrible, the staff was not friendly or helpful. The price was horrendous, not worth staying here at all. I wouldn't stay at this hotel if you paid me to, it was so uncomfortable and the cost to taxi to and from the train station is very pricey. Also the food in their restaurant is bad.

Second, the cost of taxi from the nearest train station is only 700 yen , the ride only takes 3 minutes. For attitude of our staff, please refer to others reviews. Stayed a night at Ajisai Onsen Ryokan and it was a great and comfortable stay. The staff was helpful and nice and allowed us to leave our luggage at the facility before the check in time at 4pm. It came with 3 types of private Onsen which has to be booked beforehand for an hour use in the evening and in the morning. Breakfast set was good too. Lily was helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended. Do take notes it’s a steep climb up to the location and it will be difficult with a lot of luggage.

My friend and I loved our time at Ajisai! It was our only ryokan we booked and we were very happy with our choice! Everybody on the staff was so friendly and helpful, and really went above and beyond to ensure we had a happy and comfortable stay! We had a couple last minute changes in our plans and they happily accommodated our requests. When booking, I was worried about sleeping on the traditional futon style bed, but I actually found it more comfortable than some of the hotel beds we had in Tokyo! The dinner my friend and I had was one of the best we had during our stay in Japan, with the highlight being the beef! The public transport in the area (as well as most other things in the town) shut down around 5 pm, so another reason I do recommend staying for dinner at the ryokan. The onsens were clean and had an awesome ambience and we found them very relaxing. The water in the onsens is fresh hot spring water rather than a super chlorinated hot tub, so it felt like a authentic onsen experience as well. They were also very easy to reserve for our private 1 hour in the AM and 1 hour in the PM. I hands down recommend staying at Ajisai if you are looking for a place to stay near hakone! I hope to go back someday! :)

This was a lovely and cosy place to stay in! The food was great, the service staff were approachable and the rooms were very clean and comfortable to stay in! Small personal gripe but I'd have liked for the onsen to be slightly hotter but it was still a wonderful experience. I'd recommend this place to couples or small groups of friends to stay a few nights, especially if you're on a tighter budget!

Overpriced Half Board
Plus points: Reservation based onsen allows couple, family to book and enjoy open air onsen together. Location is near top attractions in Gora (Gora park, ropeway to Owakunida, Lake Aishi). Staff is friendly and helpful. Minus points: Do not add their breakfast or dinner. It’s mediocre at best and not worth the incremental cost. You are better off eating out For the amount paid. Recommendation: do rent a car. Hakone is hilly and a car opens up many options.
