Pine groves crown the scorched red-orange cliffs edging this long and wide beach, complete with comfortable amenities, watersports options and lifeguard patrols.

Falésia Beach comprises a long stretch of golden sand at the foot of tall, colorful cliffs. It is part of a scenic strand running for about 4 miles (6 kilometers), between Vilamoura and Albufeira. Marvel at the dramatic hues of red and orange that stain the white cliff face bordering the beach.

Notice how the pine trees add a flurry of green to the fiery base and summit of the multicolored rock. Framed by the blue of the sky and water, the beach and its cliffs provide ideal photo backdrops. Sunbathe on a deck chair or take shelter beneath an umbrella. Lifeguards patrol popular sections of the beach.

Bring your family to the southeastern end of the beach for the shallow waters and wide sandy berth. Walk out quite far here at low tide. Rent boards and other equipment from the surf school, which offers lessons and trips. You can also go paragliding and scuba diving from this beach.

Stay at one of the hotels around this area of the strand and enjoy seafood from the restaurants scattered along the rear of the beach. For an alternative view, climb to the top of the cliffs and follow the walking trail.

Back on the sand, embark on a northwesterly walk while observing the changing faces of the cliffs. The strand gets narrower as you approach the quaint village of Olhos de Água. Spot locals and vacationers in pursuit of “conquilhas” clams, a local culinary delight. Stay into the evening and head to the bars and nightclubs.

Falésia Beach extends from the southwestern fringes of Vilamoura to Olhos de Água, a little west of Faro. From central Vilamoura, drive southwest for 10 minutes to get here, passing a large parking lot and a bridge on a narrow river along the way. Spend time at neighboring strands, such as Poço Velho Beach, Alfamar Beach and Tomates Beach.
