  • A very early morning outing at Botany Bay on Edisto Island. I had to start from my hotel at 3 AM to make it to this location before dawn. Botany Bay Plantation is a nature preserve and has regulated visitor hours. Gates open 30 minutes before sunrise - I wish they'd open a little sooner as the golden hour is pretty much more than half way done by the time one can make it to the beach. Nevertheless, it's a great location to visit at sunrise, especially if there are high clouds to add drama. Recommended to visit when the tide is ebbing as you then get the shadows of the trees, which to my eyes add more depth to the image. On this day, there was a bank of low clouds that prevented too much color but it was a great sunrise to witness nonetheless. The trees have so much character and add so much to the image. It's hard to look at the remnants of these trees and not imagine the onslaught they've withstood at the hands of mother nature. #WeekendGetAwayForTheFamily #colorful #USA #weekend #treetrove #blue

Ocean front house

Nice property, loved beach access. Well maintained. cleanly and well stocked kitchen supplies. A little different as we were required to make our own beds.

Beachfront

Overall, this house worked out well for our family. It was located close to everything we needed, but because of well planned landscaping, seemed fairly secluded. There were a good bit of details that were left out of the listing that would have helped immensely, but we made it work. For example, the king bedroom had no bathroom and had to share a bathroom with all of the kids (and the overhead fan doesn’t work in 2 out of 3 of the bathrooms). The twin beds were not in the rooms shown in the listing. In the listing it should clearly state the rooms with bathrooms AND that sheets and towels are not included. You should know that PRIOR to paying to book this property. This house’s saving grace is its amazing proximity to the beach, which should really be played up more in the listing. The back porch is amazing as well, and the living room /kitchen was a great gathering space for us-even with the tight fit of the table and chairs. The kitchen was the only room that has been updated, but the update was done nicely. The kids enjoyed playing basketball (bring your own ball). Lastly, I would like to add that I think it is very important that guests have a safe location on site for when tornado warnings and watches are announced, especially since they are so common in this area. It stormed badly while we were there and we lost power. The only place we would have been safe was a locked area in the carport section of the home that we had no access to. It was pretty scary for awhile. This place is great for family vacations (as long as you don’t mind sharing a bathroom with 4 kids and your spouse). It gave us all some quality time together in beautiful surroundings.

Great stay!

We loved having the flexibility to walk back to the house from the beach easily. The porch was our favorite spot. The property was also perfect for the kids to play & bike. We liked the layout of the bedrooms so each family had their side of the house & the open kitchen/living area. We will definitely be staying here again!
