The East Coast has a special place in Tasmanian hearts, the endless white sand, azure ocean, award winning wines and freshly caught seafood make it a must do for any trip to Tassie.

A good place to start is Freycinet National Park for a visit to stunning Wineglass Bay. Follow the track for a 1.3km hike that rewards you with an amazing view of the bay. From there you can choose to continue on to the beach and take a dip in the amazing crystal clear water or just take a well-earned rest on the stunning white sand. Keep a look out for dolphins playing in the bay!

For more stunning views, amazing beaches and wildlife encounters stop off at Friendly beaches. The local wallabies do their best to greet all their visitors.

Continue your journey further north along the coast and you will reach the Bay of Fires. Think crystal clear water and secluded coves. The beaches are perfect for swimming or find yourself a great surfing or dive spot. The distinctive orange covered lichen boulders that line the white sand offer a great spot to lie back and take in the stunning scenery.

Stop by a cellar door or two and sample a drop of the excellent cool climate Tassie wine. Devil’s Corner is one to add to the list you get to enjoy your wine with a view. Pop in for a tasting and head up the tower lookout for the beautiful view across to the Freycinet Peninsula and the Hazard mountains.

You’ll also want to sample some of the amazing fresh seafood. Chat to the locals to find out the best beach fishing spots, or score yourself a catch on the water. If you prefer your feast to be served to you, visit the local marine farm for freshly shucked oysters, abalone and Tassie’s famed rock lobster – known locally as crayfish.
