The best area to stay in Donji Kraj is the main village itself, centred around the picturesque harbour.

This charming village is the heart of Donji Kraj, offering a delightful blend of traditional Croatian life and convenient access to local amenities. The harbour is the focal point, lined with fishing boats and small yachts, and you'll find a selection of excellent seafood restaurants and cafes dotted along the waterfront promenade. The main street, which isn't formally named but runs parallel to the harbour, is where you'll discover local shops selling regional produce and crafts.

Couples looking for a relaxing and romantic escape will find the main village particularly appealing. The tranquil evenings by the harbour, enjoying fresh local cuisine, create a memorable experience. The proximity to the small, secluded beaches a short stroll from the village also adds to its allure, superb for quiet days by the Adriatic.

For families, the village offers a comfortable and convenient base. Children will enjoy watching the boats in the harbour and exploring the gentle, shallow waters of the nearby coves.

The best time to visit Donji Kraj is typically during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer a comfortable balance of pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and generally more favourable prices compared to the peak summer months of July and August. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the days are usually sunny and long, superb for exploring the coast and nearby islands.

For those who enjoy a lively option and don't mind warmer temperatures and more people, July and August are excellent. The entire Primorje region buzzes with activity, and all tourist facilities are fully operational. However, you should expect higher accommodation rates and book well in advance.

If your priority is fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, consider late April or late October. While the sea might be too cool for swimming, it's an ideal time for hiking, cycling, and exploring the cultural sights without the summer heat.
