"Located in a picturesque location. A good sized room, tastefully decorated with the air of quality. Was clean and quiet with a small private(ish) patio area. Friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast with fresh, tasty produce. Great stay, would stay again."

Charming cottage in beautiful private countryside with a boating lake - The Calf Pens

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Calf Pens. The local area is very quiet and peaceful, and the accommodation is perfect for one or two couples - with a bathroom each ‑ clean, spacious, comfortable and with all mod cons. The three provided fans, all on standards, were a godsend in enabling us to ride the heatwave into the upper 30s C ‑ as was the superb shower. The two folders of information were particularly helpful and well‑presented: one for the accommodation; and the other for the wider locality. We also appreciated the wine and grocery essentials, in the kitchen and fridge when we arrived. The estate includes a 1.5 mile walk, kept mown around the field edges, which is great for an early morning or late evening amble serenaded with birdsong. We spent most of our time exploring the attractive wool towns and nearby villages, as well as the multiplicity of easy‑going footpaths through the glorious countryside. We struck up a happy relationship with the owners, living in the adjoining main house, but that was as much at our instigation as theirs. We never felt our privacy was compromised and our entrance and parking were entirely private. The lawn is overlooked by the main house, so is not so private, but is in a lovely setting facing south west. Hadleigh is the nearest sizeable town for food shopping, boasting a Co‑op and a Morrisons, less than a 10 minute drive away. In summary, we recommend The Calf Pens (converted!) highly."

"Considering the age of the property, dating from 1456, the rooms were beautifully modernised whilst keeping the original features. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and I honestly can’t fault anything. The only negative was the heat but nothing anyone could do about that!!!"

"A truly exceptional stay. Yew Tree Barn is a very special place — full of character, charm and the feeling of a much-loved home rather than just a holiday cottage. Beautifully presented, peaceful and set in wonderful Suffolk countryside. The attention to detail and care from both the owners and Idyllic Cottages made our stay perfect. We have stayed in many places over the years, but this is honestly one of the best. We are already looking forward to returning. A very special hidden gem (although we almost want to keep it our secret!)."

"We enjoyed our stay at Tea Caddy Cottage. It is a lovely setting and a garden with dotted about benches outside to sit in or out of the sun. The downstairs bedroom was wonderfully cool in the hot weather. I even used the duvet at night - unheard of at home in a heatwave. Lots of nice large glasses both for wine and long cold drinks to use and plenty of crockery and cutlery. I didn't do a lot of cooking, but I found everything I needed when I did. The knives were sharp as well which I much appreciate. The bathrooms were a treat to be in with and having two was great. Being able to take our bikes and have a secure storage area to keep it in was very welcome. I really appreciated the well-presented Welcome folder with all its information easily found and clear. The countryside and places around the Suffolk/Essex border were really interesting and so much less bus than our normal environment so making for a relaxing holiday."
