Fernridge Farm Cottage

Fernridge Farm Cottage

10/10 Excellent
"From the moment we drived up the tree lined driveway we were in awe of the serenity and calmness of the environment and to view our accommodation in front of us was amazing. A very old quaint cottage. Inside the cottage had a cosy vibe and on the deck we had a lovely view of mountains and the well kept farm. We would recommend for anyone who wants to do very little or explore to stay for a night or three."

"I wish we could have stayed for a week. It was just an overnight stay but what a beautiful spot. The lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful. Our standard cabin was really clean and had everything we needed. The location was great...a walk down steps to the board walk. Will be back."

"Oliver was a wonderful host - fresh home-baked bread, butter and milk and a basket of goodies left for us, as well as a welcome sign! My 10 year old immediately felt welcome and excited to be there! The river view from the bedroom was magic in the morning. Bathroom was clean with a lovely shower. We came and went as we pleased and felt very safe. Lots of modern gadgets in the kitchen and a big TV. We enjoyed a few games of Snakes and Ladders before bed. Oliver offered plenty of local knowledge. Next time I’d like to go platypus sightseeing, was disappointed we didn’t have time this trip! Thanks for the hospitality!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Darkwood?
The best area to stay in Darkwood is the Darkwood Valley itself, particularly around the village of Darkwood Central.Darkwood Central serves as the main hub for visitors to the region. It's a small, picturesque village located in the valley, offering a selection of guesthouses, cafes, and local craft shops. The village is well-positioned for exploring the surrounding natural park, with several walking trails starting directly from its edges. The Darkwood River, known for its clear waters, runs through the village, and you'll find signs pointing to nearby viewpoints and picnic spots.Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find Darkwood Central an excellent choice. The pace of life here is slow, and the focus is on enjoying nature and each other's company. Many guesthouses offer rooms with views of the valley or the river, and some include amenities like private balconies or spa baths. Local restaurants often feature fresh, regional produce, great for a relaxed evening meal. For those seeking a more secluded and luxurious experience, properties further into the Darkwood Valley, away from the central village, are ideal. These often consist of private lodges or boutique retreats, set amidst extensive natural landscapes. They typically offer high-end amenities such as private pools, gourmet dining, and guided nature experiences.
When is the best time to go to Darkwood?
The best time to visit Darkwood is during the autumn (March to May) or spring (September to November) months.Autumn in Darkwood brings comfortably mild temperatures and generally clear skies, with average daily temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. The surrounding countryside is particularly lovely as the leaves change colour, making it an excellent time for outdoor activities like bushwalking in the Darkwood National Park or exploring the local vineyards. This period is great for those who appreciate scenic beauty and agreeable weather for outdoor pursuits.Spring also offers pleasant weather, with temperatures similar to autumn, typically between 16°C and 26°C. The landscape comes alive with wildflowers, and the rivers are often at their fullest, which can be ideal for kayaking or fishing. This season is well-suited for travellers looking to enjoy the natural environment in bloom and partake in water-based activities before the warmer summer months. While summer (December to February) can be hot, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 30°C, it's a popular time for those who enjoy swimming in the river or visiting the local fruit orchards.
