Cooper Mountain Vineyards cater to the ever-increasing group of people who like the wine they drink to be produced in a natural way – the business is certified as both organic and biodynamic. The relatively small scale of production also means that individual wines are given lots of care and attention on these family-run vineyards. This is a lovely trip for wine buffs, couples or anybody who just loves good wine.Situated on 50 hectares on the side of a long-dead volcano, Cooper Mountain Vineyards have been producing a small but high-quality range of wines since 1987. Among these are pinot gris, pinot blanc and sauvignon vert but the winery is particularly known for its chardonnay and pinot noir.In more recent times, they have branched out into making savoury balsamic vinegar, which is aged in wooden barrels to enhance the flavour. There is also a sulphite-free option on offer, known as Life Wine, which is an option for those who are usually allergic to wine. There is a small charge for tastings, but this is refunded if you decide to buy something.During the summer months, local musicians play at the winery on Friday evenings. Later in the year, November sees the Willamette Valley Thanksgiving Open House Weekend, when 100 different vineyards open their doors for a range of very special tasting events. Cooper Mountain offers music and a range of wine and food pairings for the occasion. The Gross family and their friendly staff will be happy to take you through the process involved in the production of organic wine. They have an obvious passion for their craft and the resulting benefits if you'd like to know more. The vineyards are open from midday to 5 p.m. every day.
