Christmas at Smuggsbarn cottage’
We had a lovely Christmas 2025 at Smuggsbarn cottage. Plenty of room for two families and 2 dogs (party of 6). Definitely recommend. Location was perfect for visiting the Cotswolds. The cottage had all the amenities and equipment to cook a full Christmas dinner. Double check the bedroom layout worked well for us but may not work well for everyone. Would recommend booking the local wood yard to deliver logs for the wood burning or you can collect bags yourself like we do did. Would definitely return and hopefully the local village pub has re opened when we do. The Francis & Crab family’s from Farnham.
I am originally from Chedworth, so it’s worth noting that I knew where I would be staying. We loved the house for our week long stay. It worked really well for a family of four, the WiFi was excellent, two guest rooms helped for the kids and they also had the garden to play in. It’s also very close to the village hall and their playing fields.
We will stay here again on our next trip…

Short summer break
We stayed at Smuggs Barn Cottage for a week and had a fantastic time. Very peaceful location, while still within 15/20 min drive to local town. Did not get a chance to try the local pubs but visited local villages / towns. Very beautiful part of England.

Ideal Cottage
Had a fantastic weekend in this cottage. Ideal stay for the family wedding in the village, along with another we rented opposite the church. Lovely location and everything very comfortable. If we were to be at all critical outside furniture could do with a makeover, pigeons are a problem on some of these and seeing as though we were advised to use the rear door then bins ought to have been out of the way of this area. Plant pots uncared for too.
All in all though very satisfied.

Family Stay
We stayed for one week in Smuggdbarn Cottage with our kids and our dog. The Cottage is very well prepared for traveling with a dog, especially with an own dog shower and gates at the stairs that prevents the dog from going in the upper floors. The living rooms are really nice with all you need for quite evenings or games for the kids. We really loved to stay at the cottage and we. An fully recommend Smuggsbarn Cottage.

Really lovely warm cosy cottage
We had a delightful four-night stay at the cottage. It was wonderfully equipped, cozy, and situated in a serene location with plenty of walking paths nearby. The shortbread we received as the welcome pack was a lovely. The towels and bedding were of excellent quality, and the beds were very comfortable.
However, we did notice a few things that could be improved. The original listing mentioned a local pub that serves food, but unfortunately, it has been closed since 2023. The main bedroom would benefit from having an additional bedside lamp, as there is currently only one. The silicone oven gloves in the kitchen are quite slippery and awkward to use, which could be a potential safety risk.
We arrived at the designated 5 pm check-in time in November. It would have been nice to have an outside light on, as it was quite dark and we had to fumble around to find the key box. Thankfully, we had torches with us.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage to others, with these minor adjustments in mind.

Autumn stay in the Cotswolds
Smuggs Barn Cottage was a good flexible option for us to stay with our adult daughters and dogs. It was great to have an additional potential space downstairs with a bed settee, although some might find it disconcerting that there is no specific door to the upstairs bedroom accessible directly from the sitting room. The kitchen is spacious and a great base. We found it very helpful to have stair gates at the foot of each of the staircases. We were surprised to find that there weren't any baking sheets provided - just a few (nice but not particularly large) ovenproof dishes. For chips a baking sheet is much easier to use! The most irritating thing about the house was that the downstairs toilet only fully flushed itermittently - we did get used to it, but it was a bit annoying. The garden is large and there are some good walks direct from the door. We decided to take a trip out to Bourton on the Water on the Saturday which was a huge mistake - it was absolutely jam packed with people, so we didn't stop! Aside from rush hour trains I don't think I've seen so many people milling around. Chedworth is a good location for touring around the area.

Lovely Cotswold cottage stay
Smuggsbarn cottage is in a beautiful village and very well placed for visiting all the area has to offer. We were a family of 5 adults, a 15 mth old baby and a dog and there was plenty of room for all of us. The cottage is a good size; comfortable and cosy. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were some nice touches in the cottage such as the boot room with a dog shower. We loved having the Wii for some family fun in the evenings.
We liked the quirky staircase from living room to bedroom 1 although not necessarily suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The garden was lovely and it was a shame we couldn’t enjoy it due to rain most of our stay but then we did visit in late September.
Booking was easy and communication ahead of our visit was efficient and informative. We had a slight issue with leaking in the boot room on arrival but this was due to torrential rain and it is an old building. We reported it to the managing agents who were quick to respond. It didn’t occur again during our stay.
There are some lovely walks from the cottage and some nice places to eat within a short drive. It’s a shame the local pub had shut down as it would have been nice to be able to walk somewhere to eat but we understand there are plans for this to be reopened in the future.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Smuggsbarn and would happily return.

Lovely stay in gorgeous cottage
We had a lovely week at Smuggsbarn. The cottage was clean and well equipped with even a dog wash area. The beds were extremely comfortable. I used to live in Chedworth and it was great to be able to show my Ukrainian guest all that the Cotswolds has to offer. We wished we could stay longer and will definitely look to return.

Nice cottage for a short break
The cottage itself was lovely and served us well for the time we were there.
The key box wasn’t immediately located but we found it eventually attached to the rear gates.
The cottage was for the main part clean but we felt it hadn’t been hoovered/cleaned as well as it could have been as floors weren’t great.

A Delightful Stay at Smuggsbarn Cottage – A True Cotswold Gem
We had a wonderful stay at Smuggsbarn Cottage – a charming, beautifully restored Cotswold retreat in the peaceful village of Cheddworth. The cottage was cosy, spotless, and full of character, with lovely rustic touches like exposed beams and a wood-burning stove, alongside modern comforts that made it feel like a true home away from home. The kitchen was well-equipped, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the quiet countryside surroundings made for a truly relaxing escape.
The location was ideal for exploring the Cotswolds, with scenic walks from the doorstep and picturesque villages like Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water just a short drive away. The process was seamless from start to end, and Claire was incredibly helpful.

Lovely gem
Lovely both modern and traditional cottage in a very quiet village. Easy to access lots of areas in the Cotswolds. Dog friendly with a purpose built dog wash area in the boot room which was a god send. Stair gates on the stairs and dogs aren’t allowed on furniture or upstairs- which some people with dogs may struggle with so just a pre warning. Fully enclosed garden so pet safe. Has everything you need for a more than comfortable stay.

Lovely stay in great location for visiting the Cotswolds
Cottage in handy location for visiting lots of places and doing dog walks. Few minor points they could address - no coffee pods on arrival as promised, middle blind in main bedroom didn't close so very bright first thing in the morning, beds in room 2 not put together as requested, dog poop in garden left from previous visitors, dustbin lorry arrived on Thursday morning (notes said Tuesday).

A few things need dealing with
Very clean, for me it lacked coziness. There was an issue in upstairs bathroom that could be an accident waiting to happen. There was also a sewage smell in boot room that seaped through. We had to block of the plug holes to cut down on odour.
