Lovely family hideaway
The property is lovely and has almost all you need. The GPS coordinates are essential to find the home. A little remote from shops and town so car is a must. Darren was fabulous and helped us a lot. No pool fence so be alert with young children. Otherwise recommended

A beautiful place to stay
The Masseria has been beautifully restored and is now a very comfortable property with a stunning pool and lovely garden. It is very well equipped and we loved staying there. The location is perfect for visiting Alberobello and other attractions. Darren, the property manager, was very helpful and responsive. Highly recommended.

The most beautiful place we have ever stayed. This country property is stunning.
The County House has been renovated to a high standard every thing you need there. Fantastic pool lots of space in house and out side area. You definitely need a car. Coast a 20mins drive. We did not want to leave definitely be back thank you for our stay.

Slice of heaven
This was my fourth or fifth time staying in the Masseria, and each time it gets harder to leave. It is so peaceful and relaxing and everywhere you look is beauty. It has everything you need, and with 5 bedrooms and baths it is great for larger families. Definitely my favorite place in Italy! Can’t wait to be back!!

Beautiful property in lovely surroundings, with close proximity to lots of interesting places to visit. Particularly enjoyed all the outdoor space, including the pool (shallow end great for small children). Daz, the caretaker, was also extremely helpful providing lots of guidance on the property and the area. Thank you!

A stunning property
We’ve had the most amazing holiday in this beautiful restored villa, plenty of space for 6 adults, 3 children, everything is top quality and so tastefully decorated. The setting in the olive and cherry groves is so peaceful but near to Conversano , a lovely town with excellent restaurants. Lots to do, but hard to drag yourself away from the excellent pool. Darren is on hand to help in any way . A great holiday .

Castellana Grotte villa
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful villa, We were a party of 10 with 4 young children and had plenty of room. The kids were happy to spend day after day in the pool but we did get out to visit; Herculaneum (exceptionally hot but amazing) the Castellano grottes, the beach, Conversano to the museum and castle and saw the UNESCO site at aberobello. Darren was very helpful. One of the best bits was watching a thunderstorm from the balcony. We had a great time and I would definitely recommend this villa.

This is a truly magical experience!
This is my third time renting this Beautiful house, and I love it more each time. The outside as well as this inside is designed and decorated to perfection. I’ve spent the last 18 summers in Italy and this by far is my favorite place to stay. Can’t wait to be back next year.

Modern amenities in a spacious, tastefully refreshed, centrally located private setting
Masseria Casalicchio is tastefully, comfortably and attractively restored accommodating our family of six adults with room to spare. Both the interior and exterior grounds are inviting and relaxing. The Masseria served as a base of exploration of our roots in Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. It is centrally located to allow access to multiple attractions. Our stay was made all the more enjoyable by our hosts Darren and and Donatella who greeted us on arrival and prepared a bountiful Puglian meal for us to enjoy while they provided insights about the immediate area (take a trip to Conversano-there is a castle in the middle of this vibrant community). If you are planning a visit and want to explore the unique southern culture in and around Puglia, I can highly recommend a stay at Masseria Casalicchio.

Our family had a wonderful stay in this beautifully modernised house. The pool was great, cleaned regularly, large, and set in a very spacious terrace. Excellent for sitting in the evenings and soaking in the warmth and sun in the day. Kitchen very well equipped, so we enjoyed cooking some evenings. Darren and Donatella were model managers, did everything to make us welcome, and gave great recommendations about local restaurants etc.

BIG thank you to Daz - villa caretaker & his lovely wife Donatella! Top bloke! Lovely lady! Was in contact by WhatsApp before & during the holiday. Days out advice was spot on! Thanks mate! 👍 Julian thank you for letting us stay in your impressive villa! What a place! The HomeAway pics don’t do it justice! Was even more impressive in real life! I’m not an architecture or cultural expert but wow! 2500 characters isn’t enough to write a full review of every aspect of the villa but here goes!... We are a family of 9 including 4 30-something adults & 5 kids aged 8-12. The villa is located amongst grape & almond farms so take Daz up on meeting him at the Esso garage! At the villa, Daz went through security - lockable gates to villa grounds a safe & villa alarm - which from personal experience WILL end up with a security guard arriving at the villa! He was very understanding though! Internet signal is 3/4 bars 4G, but villa has satellite wifi anyway, just keep in mind they aren’t plasterboard walls! The villa was spotless like a 5 star hotel! Clean tidy & well presented! There are mosquito nets on every door and window which is good! Was reluctant about getting a villa without air con but every room had a fan in it & it never felt too hot! Upstairs the master bedroom had a 4 poster bed in it en suite bathroom with a good shower! Upstairs family bathroom with shower served 2 bedrooms. One double & the other 2 single beds in it - my eldest lad claimed the comfy camp bed Daz had put in extra for us! There was still plenty of room! Each bedroom had terrace access surrounding 75% of the villa - cracking views! Good area for Gecko spotting & star gazing with a beer from the comfy sofas (whilst getting bitten by mosquitos - take some cream!). Downstairs had 2 double bedrooms both en suite’s. Downstairs toilet had a washing machine in it which we used. There’s a washing line. Kitchen was spotless! Full size dishwasher - buy some tabs. BIG fridge freezer & plenty of cooking space! Took our rubbish to local recycle area when on days out. Dining room seated 10 & is main access point to different parts of villa. Includes wheelchair ramp. We booked Donatella to cook for us! YOU HAVE TO DO THIS! FOOD IS SO NICE! And there’s loads! We chose meat option. Local bottles of red & white went down well! Lounge has comfy leather sofas and cushions & DVD archive. The pool was good size graduated by steps to deep end. Table tennis was fun! Enjoyed our stay!

A lovely comfortable house with a large wonderful pool and garden. Set in peace and quiet cpuntry.
Our group of 8 very much enjoyed our stay helped by being wonderfully looked after by Darren And Donatella who also cooked us a Pugliese feast which was delicious and fed us for a day or two. Watch out for the crazy driving and mosquitoes! A very memorable holiday in a lovely house.

A bit of heaven in Apulia
This is my second stay in this beautiful Masseria, and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The house is lovely and has everything needed for a large family or group of friends. The location is perfect. A short drive to all of the interesting towns. I would highly recommend this house to anyone visiting the region.

A beautiful house and a great pool. Every detail is considered for a comfortable & relaxing stay.
We had a a lovely time, and it was a pleasure to stay here. The house and pool were wonderful, and our families were very happy to while away the hours at the property - so much so that we rarely ventured out! There were lots of different spaces to enable quieter moments , and the sunset from the upstairs terrace is seriously impressive! The owners have thought of everything, and have a great taste - they were also very flexible with our complicated accommodation requirements! We were well looked after by Darren and Donatella who were supportive, friendly, informative but unobtrusive hosts. The location was ideal for short trips to interesting places. You need a car, though - a little more information in the blurb about exact location would be helpful, as we thought we may have been able to walk into Castellana - which wasn't really an option. This didn't stop us from having a thouroughly enjoyable time though. We would not hesitate to recommend the property to others - but don't all rush to book , now - we'd like to be able to go back at some point!!!

There were 10 of us and we just fit in - 3 children had to share a room but Daz (the caretaker) did offer us an additional bed in the living area. This house is very clean, peaceful with a really nice pool and beautiful views from the upstairs veranda. All the bedrooms are lovely and it was good to have the anti-insect screens on the windows and doors The kitchen is very well equipped and the welcome breakfast pack is not only useful but also very good and well thought through. The house is in a great location- many interesting places to visit within a short drive (Craco is a must, just don't do the tour- too long), Matera, Ostuni, Lecce and the nice beaches. Downsides: Don't expect to get any Wifi as the signal is extremely weak and does not extend beyond the living room. Also, there was confusion about check in and check out times. The contract says check in after 3pm. Daz (the caretaker) emailled to say that we could not check in until after 5pm as the house would not be ready. I suggested that we arrive after 3 and stay around the pool and out of the way. But, he basically said "no". So, we arrived after 5pm and I asked about the temperature of the pool and he said "Its great, I had a swim this afternoon and it was lovely!". In short, we had been pre-longing our arrival and waiting whilst he had a swim. Check out was just as confusing - It was meant to be at 10am. Donatella arrived with her crew to clean the house at 9am. We did not find it relaxing having 3 women bustling through the house or hovering nearby with cleaning stuff for an hour as we were trying to enjoy the last few minutes of our holiday and pack up. These times should be made clearer in the contract. Having said all of that, it is a wonderful house- well thought out , easy to use and in a very accessible area of Puglia.

A bit of heaven in Italy
This house is truly amazing. We were a party of 9. Mothers and daughters, a married couple and the rest singles and we all had our own space to go to when or if we needed to get away. The house is centrally located and we could get to most of the towns that we wanted to visit within 30 minutes, but like another reviewer stated....the best evenings consisted of everybody gathering outside by the pool, having dinner and drinks. So much fun. Couldn't have been better.

Darren and donatella couldnt have been more helpful. Beautifully converted but watch your head on some doors!! Welcome pack was very welcome. Local restaurants were all good. Obviously need a car. Cherries from their own orchard were delicious. Would return.

PLEASURES IN PUGLIA
Our party of six adults had a most enjoyable stay at Masseria Casalicchio over the first week of October 2016, not least because of the attentions of the caretakers, Donatella and Darren - Donatella offering a spectacular buffet meal, from fresh local produce, on the evening of our arrival, and Darren providing invaluable help during a medical emergency. The handsome barrel-vaulted farmhouse preserves a basic 16th-century structure in combination with a thoroughly modernised, spacious, and comfortable interior. Being some distance from main roads, set among a landscape of seemingly limitless olives groves (and with its own large swimming pool), the house is totally quiet - sounds of nature apart - and entirely safe for young children. It had been our intention to visit notable cities and towns such as Brindisi, Lecce, Taranto, and Matera, but found, in the event, that there was an abundance of attractive places closer at hand and suitable for half-day excursions: Conversano, Locorotondo, Martina France, Ostuni, and, on the coast, Bari, Polignano a Mare, and Monopoli. All in all, Masseria Casalicchio and its locality can be warmly recommended, both for families and for groups of adults. William Mathew

Relaxation and Comfort at Masseria Casalicchio
We spent a week at the Masseria, a family party of six adults. The Masseria is set in the midst of olive groves and vineyards, quiet and secluded. It has been beautifully restored with all the facilities that you could require, super comfortable beds and a colourful garden with lemon trees, oleanders and agapanthus, all in flower. There is a large outside shaded area with tables and chairs and a splendid pool very carefully maintained by Darren. On arrival we were met and guided to the Masseria by Darren, who with his wife Donatella produced the most delicious, home cooked meal of authentic local fare; a wonderful way to start our holiday. Darren was very easy to contact and full of useful suggestions of good local restaurants, markets and other places to visit. In particular, on his suggestion, we had a day out at Torre Guacheto, an unspoilt nature reserve with an endless curved sandy beach, beautiful swimming and walking. Other highlights were the local medieval town of Conversano, the seaside resort of Polignano a Mare and the partly excavated ruins at Egnazia. The Masseria is rural and very quiet, an ideal restorative after busy city life, with lazy, sunny days of swimming and reading in a beautiful setting. Darren and his wife were very thoughtful and kind and added greatly to the pleasure of our stay. Two of the party have coeliac disease and Darren and Dona could not have been more helpful in providing delicious food they could eat safely and suggesting local, "coeliac friendly" restaurants. We were very grateful for their understanding and efforts. We all had an excellent time at Masseria Casalicchio and could not recommend it more highly.

Eine Woche im Paradies ...
Wir verbrachten eine Woche im Juni mit einer befreundeten Familie in dieser wundervollen Unterkunft. Die Fotos im Inserat können die Weitläufigkeit des Hauses gar nicht genügend erfassen. Es ist super gepflegt, groß und liebevoll eingerichtet und es ist wirklich alles vorhanden, was man für einen angenehmen Aufenthalt braucht. Der Garten und der Pool sind herausragend schön und gepflegt, nicht zuletzt, da Darren immer wieder nach dem Rechten schaut und sich sehr liebevoll um Haus und Gäste kümmert. Wir kommen gerne jederzeit wieder, dann aber für 2 Wochen :-) !

Apulien im Herbst
Wir waren drei Paare in diesem wunderschönen alten Bauernhaus. Zu sechst hatten wir natürlich sehr viel Platz und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet, die Küche lässt keine Wünsche offen und es war überall sehr sauber. Die Terasse und den großen Pool konnten wir auch Mitte Oktober noch sehr gut nutzen, nur am Abend wurde es schon recht kühl. Besonders angenehm war die Kommunikation mit Darren, dem Hausverwalter, der auf all unsere Fragen immer sehr schnell geantwortet hat. Er war uns eine große Hilfe. Auch das Ein- und auschecken lief reibungslos. Das ganze hat unsere Woche in Apulien sehr angenehm gemacht. Many thanks to Darren!! Klaus and Friends

Das Haus hat alle Erwartungen übertroffen. Es wurde sehr hochwertig renoviert und ausgestattet mit vielen durchdachten Details. Ein sehr schön angelegter Garten und der riesige Pool laden zum Verweilen ein... wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen, und haben uns von Darren (housekeeper) bestens betreut gefühlt. Alt fungerede og der var pænt, rent og meget velholdt. En dejlig stor og ren pool i en dejlig have med et velfungerende spiseområde der dannede rammen om mange hyggelige timer. Beskrivelse/billeder på VRBO er præcis og dækkende. Således blev vores forventninger 100% indfriet. Vi kan varmt anbefale Masseria Casalicchio som et dejligt udgangspunkt for en ferie i Puglien.

Traumhaftes Haus, Erholung garantiert
Wir haben eine wunderbare Woche in dieser liebevoll restaurierten Masseria verbracht! Das Haus ist riesig und sehr komfortabel und großzügig eingerichtet. Es fehlte hier wirklich an nichts. Hervorzuheben ist, dass die Matratzen sehr bequem sind und wir alle super erholt geschlafen haben. Die meiste Zeit haben wir im Aussenbereich verbracht. Dieser ist einfach nur ein Traum - der große Holztisch, umringt von Obstbäumen, Rosmarin und Oleander, der riesige Pool, der durch die Abstufungen super auch für unsere kleinen (1 jährigen) Kinder geeignet war, die Dachterrasse, von der man den schönsten Sonnenuntergang genießen konnte. Die idyllische Lage des Hauses zwischen Olivenhainen und Traubenplantagen war super als Ausgangspunkt für unsere Ausflüge. Innerhalb von 30 Minuten kann man sowohl schöne Strände, als auch die sehenswerten UNESCO Kulturerbe Stadt Alberobello, Polignano oder auch Monopoli sehr gut erreichen. Der Kontakt zu Darren, dem Housekeeper, war reibungslos und einwandfrei. Er und seine Frau waren sehr herzlich und bemüht um uns und gaben uns super Tipps. Sie bieten auch einen Kulinarischen Abend an, an dem man von beiden mit allerlei apulianischen Spezialitäten bekocht wird. Dies ist wirklich sehr zu Empfehlen! Danke nochmal an Darren und Donatella!

Great experience in the Puglia countryside
Wonderful masseria, full of eveything and perfectly organized. 5 comfortable bedrooms very well furnished with 5 bathrooms. Huge kitchen equipped with anything a family may need. All extremely elegant and accurate also in the living room in case of bad weather. Large parking, good wifi, perfect pool. Isolated location, quite and with wonderful view. Perfect welcome and service. Pity that the small town close to masseria is nothing special but with a car you can easily reach beautiful other towns and enjoy the Puglia atmosphere. Vote: 10 cum laude!

Même fin décembre, ce fût un plaisir de vivre à 9 dans cette grande maison, avec des petits enfants. Cuisine très adaptée pour qui aime cuisiner. Et bien sûr la région est magnifique et paisible. Le seul défaut : le paiement se fait en livre sterling, ce qui entraine des frais supplémentaires par rapport au prix annoncé en euros. Un grand merci à Darren qui nous a chouchouté.

Unsere Gruppe langjähriger Freunde ( 4 bzw. 5 Ehepaare) sind jedes Jahr zusammen in einem Ferienhaus und haben viele Erfahrungen gemacht. Die Masseria Casalicchio hat unsere Erwartungen weit übertroffen und wir sind noch immer in bester Erinnerung an den wundervollen Urlaub in geschmackvoller, edler Unterkunft mit allem Komfort. Caretaker Darren und seine Frau verdienen besonderes Lob wegen ihrer Fürsorge. Glanzlicht war, dass sie uns an einem Abend als Köche mit apulischen Köstlichkeiten verwöhnten.

The splendid stay at Masseria Casalicchio
Dear Homeaway We stayed at Masseria Casalicchio 9 days from May 25 to June 3, 2019. Our group was made of 10 people. The purpose of the vacation was to have a family reunion on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our marriage and the 75th birthday of my wife. We are living in Milan, and the rest of the group was made up by my older son Andrea coming from the USA with his partner, my second son coming from Richmond UK with his wife and with my grandson and grand daughter , my daughter Nicoletta living in Milano and my brother in law coming from Roma. Despite the different geographical living of the members of the group, everybody was enthusiastic of the Masseria’s comfortable and very refined elegance, its high quality centenary walls and furniture anywere, the great beds, the modern kitchen, the swimming pool, the barbecue, the splendid table in the patio, with a wide shadowed corner, the beach beds, the ping-pong . The above was embedded among centenary olive trees, the cherry trees, and the 2 trullis nearby. And was even available a cleaning lady…! We were also assisted with thoughtful and great professionality by the caretaker of the mansion, Darren. Also the Masseria location was outstanding. Nearby we had the Castellana caves, within 30-40 km we had places like Alberobello, Polignano a mare, and many others. A bit further is Matera ( elected the capital culture of Europe in 2019), and many others. We explored many of the restaurants and "trattorie" around, but the surprise was a 16+"Pugliese" specialties dinner in a sort of "endless " degustation prepared by Donatella and served in the Masseria. All of us left at the end with a lot of nostalgia for the place. We will certainly go back in the future. And we extend our deeper compliments to the owner, who was willing to invest and preserve such a beauty in what I should call from now on the Italian “Pugliashire”. Kind regards Massimo

Great stay in beautiful house with nice hosts
We had had a great stay in Castellana Grotte. We were there with 6 adults and 3 little children. The hosts Darren and Donatelle were very kind. We asked them cots and high chairs for the little children and everything was there when we arrived. We asked them to prepare a meal for us and it was fantastic!! The private pool was great, the garden beautifull. There a many things to visit there. Matera, Alterobello beautiful little towns. We would recommend it to our friends. We had a great stay there. Thank you Darren and Donatella for all your help and information.

Parfaitement entretenue, très bien équipée. Jolie mélange de l'ancien et du moderne. Beaucoup de charme. Chambres spacieuses et lumineuses. Vélos à disposition pour visiter la campagne environnante. Petit bémol, chauffage pas assez puissant pour cette période de l'année. Fin mars début avril.

Una vacanza perfetta!
Eravamo un gruppo di 8 persone, tutti adulti, desiderosi di trascorrere insieme il Capodanno e di visitare alcuni bei luoghi della Puglia. La masseria Il Casalicchio è stato il posto ideale! Una struttura accogliente, molto pulita e curata anche nei dettagli. Abbiamo trascorso ore lietissime accanto al camino, organizzato delle belle cene nell'ampia sala da pranzo, visitato luoghi incantevoli e facili da raggiungere, come Conversano, Alberobello, Monopoli, Locorotondo, Matera e il centro storico di Bari. La cucina è spaziosa e fornita di tutto il necessario per gruppi numerosi; le camere da letto sono comode e gli spazi comuni ampi e confortevoli. I due architetti del nostro gruppo hanno particolarmente apprezzato i lavori di ristrutturazione che sono stati fatti nella struttura, preservandone tutto il fascino. Infine abbiamo particolarmente gradito la cortesia e la disponibilità di Donatella e Darren, che ci hanno accolto e fornito tutte le informazioni di cui avevamo bisogno. Un'esperienza da ripetere in futuro!

Großes schönes und gut eingerichtetes Haus im Norden Apuliens
Wir haben mit 3 Familien vor dem beginnenden Herbst in Süditalien noch einmal Sonne getankt. Die Masseria ist sehr sauber, mit allem eingerichtet, was man braucht und auch der Pool war noch (für die abgehärteten :-)) nutzbar. Es gibt 4 Doppel- und ein Einzelzimmer, besonders das Himmelbettzimmer ist traumhaft schön im oberen Stockwerk. Darren als Ansprechpartner war jederzeit zu erreichen und wir haben das Angebot genutzt, uns von ihm und seiner Frau an einem Abend bekochen zu lassen. Es war sehr lecker und es gab riesige Mengen. Empfehlenswert! Man braucht ein Auto, die nächste Stadt Castellana ist in knapp 10 Autominuten zu erreichen.
