"Our stay at Quinta de la Rosa was absolutely wonderful! The beautiful views everywhere you turn, the delicious locally inspired continental breakfast, and Patricia’s fantastic tasting tour made the experience truly special. Dinner each night was a culinary joy with the knowledgeable wait-staff. Everything was charming, welcoming, and memorable - a perfect blend of tradition and modern. A genuine gem in the Douro Valley that we would happily recommend and return to!"

What is the best area to stay in Casal De Loivos?
The best area to stay in Casal De Loivos is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside, to fully appreciate its focus on wine production and stunning Douro Valley views.

Casal De Loivos is a small, traditional village, perched high above the Douro River. It's renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views of the terraced vineyards, particularly from the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos, a well-known viewpoint. The village is quiet and offers a genuine taste of rural Portuguese life, with many properties being converted quintas (wine estates) or traditional homes.

For couples seeking a romantic and tranquil escape, staying directly in Casal De Loivos is perfect. You'll find boutique accommodations, often with private terraces overlooking the valley, ideal for enjoying a glass of local wine as the sun sets. Many of these places offer wine-tasting experiences right on site or can arrange tours of nearby vineyards.

When is the best time to go to Casal De Loivos?

The temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C, making it comfortable for exploring the vineyards and enjoying outdoor activities. This period is ideal for couples looking for a romantic escape, with opportunities for wine tastings and scenic drives along the Douro River.

Autumn brings the grape harvest season, known as vindima, which is a lively and fascinating time to visit. From late September to early October, you can often observe or even participate in the traditional grape picking. The landscape transforms into a stunning palette of reds, oranges, and golds as the vine leaves change colour.
