"On arrival staff were very welcoming. No problem checking in, shown to a lovely big room. Ate in the restaurant 2nd night, good selection on menu to choose from. Overall, a great stay. Would use again when staying in Carlisle again"

"The Gables has only been open 2 weeks. We were met with a warm welcome. Our room was comfortable and most importantly clean. We had a meal for dinner. Quite affordable and basic food. Think this area needs some tweaking. A most affordable stop over in Gretna."

Lake District Castle Inn hotel & Spa

"The property is in a nice quiet area with plenty of parking. There is also a bus stop right outside. Our room was great with a great view of the valley. I think the stay is good for a relaxing evening with lots to do in the property and around. They have some vegetarian options in the menu as well. They have spa treatments that are advertised for 7 days a week, but don’t seem to operate on Sundays or Mondays, which is bad if you’re planning to spend the weekend there. Not the property if you were planning to get a massage after a long hike. As it is a period property, there are no lifts to the rooms, so you may need to carry your luggage up the stairs through a maze of doors although I think it’s only one floor so should generally be okay.."

"Hotel was a bit dated however the room was clean, the bed comfortable and the location was quiet so got a good night's sleep. We did not eat breakfast, and dinner was not available so ate in the pub across the road then came back to the hotel and enjoyed their small bar. The hotel is handy for the motorway."
