Incredible property. Fantastic stay to visit wine country. The room, food amenities and staff were all top notch. Wish we had another night there. 2 nights was too short.
Amazing place, staff was super friendly and the restaurant ”Claras Barn” was outstanding. Very scenic environment and the running ducks was very special to see.
The house is so well preserved and do interesting historically. The property is beautiful and the rooms are wonderful. The staff are amazing in every way.
This is a very good hotel. We enjoyed our stay here. The manager who greeted us on arrival was very helpful. Really good breakfast and there was a restaurant for dinner. At night time post restaurant it was eerily quiet and dark on the outdoor walk back to the room - this is just a minor observation.
The staff at the property was amazing. And even with load shedding being such a big issue in South Africa I barely noticed it at all. Everything was clean and staff was super efficient and helpful. I had an amazing time staying at vergenoegd and will definitely visit again

Stayed at the room with a private pool. Enjoyed it. The rooms are modern and clean. Lots of mosquitoes in the area. Should be prepared.
Simply the best first night in a foreign country experience we've ever had. Jayne and Le Roux are the perfect people to work in hospitality and the attention to detail was unbelievably outstanding. The whole property is absolutely amazing and it's far more than just a hotel - the experiences offered from the meals to the wine tasting to the runner duck watching (has to be seen to be believed) are fantastic and they set the bar for the rest of our time in South Africa very high indeed.
Great wine estate, we booked a modern villa with private pool, a stop between safaris across different African countries. Whay struck us immediately is scattered junior staff without any supervision or management skills. For 3 days, only a succession of nice but poorly trained junior employees trying their best to serve but lacking an overview of customer experience. Even Clara Barn's fine dining lacked luster beyond the rather boring menu: we had personally met Chef Bertus at Speck & Bone in Stellenbosch the night before and enjoyed his talents...but no chef came to the table at Clara's the 2nd night: service was clumsy with no real knowledge of dishes/ ingredients...The afternoon wine tasting was sad and low grade compared to the brand story. However, the Spa was a high point, excellent professional treatments, great hospitality. There is obviously no real GM or Customer management on the grounds of Vergenoegd, they think that the winery and ducks are enough...For those prices, I don't think so and the German owner should know better , hire a real GM if he wants to fill in and not waste this beautiful real estate investment that could be run like a real 5 stars that it deserves...
