A wonderful stay

Unique and handy
Our stay at El Capitan was novel and fun. Easy access to Palo Duro Canyon and downtown Canyon, TX. Host Becky was terrific and our dog enjoyed the horses and dogs on property. Would recommend to anyone seeking a unique experience!

This is a great place to stay for some quiet and some really big skies, and it is very close to Palo Duro Canyon State Park and the cute town of Canyon, TX. The rail car is absolutely adorable and extremely comfortable and clean. I wish I had been able to stay longer and will definitely come back. Becky is a great host - she offered so many nice details in her hospitality which made me feel at home, and I also felt like I had privacy. I stayed here in the winter and would like to return in the warmer months and enjoy the outdoor seating and grill.

Amazing Hospitality in the TX Panhandle
My wife, two children and our dog Norman absolutely loved our stay at El Capitan. Becky could not have been more hospitable and the boxcar is as homey and comfy as it gets. Becky had truly thought of everything. We all enjoyed the waking up to the horses and donkeys in the pastures and the sunset in the evening is breathtaking. We look forward to coming back and visiting her other boxcar the Grand Chief!

The Wild West
This was the kick off to our family vacation towards the west! The boxcar is incredibly beautiful I loved the decor and landscaping. My kids were so excited for the sweet dogs and the fact they were sleeping in a train car. It happened to be the last full moon of the year the night we stayed and laying down seeing the moon through the skylights was my most favorite. I love finding unique places to stay and this one gave me so much inspiration!

Unique Experience
Becky is a fantastic host and provides so many personal touches. The boxcar was a unique experience and we loved the skylights over the bed, especially as we were there for the Beaver Full Moon. It is close to Palo Duro Canyon and it is quiet and peaceful at night. We would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

WOW, just WOW!
Becky, the boxcar is a great idea and your refurbishment is awesome. Being from the DFW area we really enjoyed the big sky and the added bonus of the moon peeking thru the skylight. A fantastic place to stay. Thank you for your hospitality.

Picturesque stay
After a small snafu during the check in process, we had a fantastic stay at El Capitan! Becky was an excellent hostess and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The property has all the amenities you need. The decorations are perfect and the West Texas scenery is iconic. We enjoyed the evening’s pink sunset on patio and watching the gorgeous sunrise from the pullout bed in the living room. We will absolutely be back!

Total relaxation in a unique setting
This place is awesome! Super clean and super comfortable - all in an authentic boxcar. We spent two very enjoyable nights there while touring the local area - I wish we could have used it for the rest of our trip. It had all we needed, plus plenty of peace and quiet. The treats were a very nice touch. We enjoyed a perfect view of the sunset from the side porch and nice bright stars - especially in the early morning. Also enjoyed playing with the resident dogs. Becky is an excellent host - we had a nice visit with her and were treated to a tour of her newest boxcar creation. If you want a truly unique and comfortable stay, this is the place. Cute converted boxcar!
El Capitan was a great place to stay in Canyon! Cute and cozy with a fabulous patio that’s perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset and the stargazing is incredible! The bed and space were comfy and all the extra touches made for a lovely stay. Easy drive to Palo Duro, Canyon and Amarillo. Host was very communicative and the dogs, donkeys and horses were all sweet and friendly. Highly recommend!

Our Empty Nester Getaway
I booked this for a few days since we had just dropped our youngest off at college and I didn’t want to go home right away. My husband wasn’t sure what to expect when I told him we were staying in a box car, but upon entering he was immediately impressed. It was a short maybe 10 minute drive to everything on campus and in Canyon. Becky had the A/C running for us, left a welcome note, and some thoughtful WTAMU gear. The decor was lovely, I loved the western feel, the welcoming porch, and clean landscaping What grabbed my attention before booking- was the view of the horses, from the big picture window/ garage door. So you can be sure that’s where I had my morning coffee and cold beverages in the evening. Thank you Becky, Lucy, Chubs, and all your furr babies for making this a weekend we will cherish!

This was one of our most memorable stays in a VRBO. This is not to missed if you love some adventure, quiet, wonderful hosting, the great outdoors, fun decor, etc. We enjoyed this stay so much we were sending pictures to family & friends who we thought would love it, too. Just book it!
This was a charming retreat where my spouse and I had a WONDERFUL stay! Located around 20 minutes away from Palo Duro, this converted train box car offered us a unique and memorable experience. The proximity to Palo Duro made this location ideal for our hiking adventures. The converted train box car was a true gem. The skylights above the bed allowed us to stargaze as we drifted off to sleep, which was so peaceful. The rental was well furnished and thoughtfully filled with any supplies you might need. The presence of two air conditioners ensured we stayed comfortable throughout our stay. We especially enjoyed the sliding door in the living room, which provided a breathtaking view of the sunset every evening. The hand-piped shower added a unique touch to the bathroom. While it took some getting used to, it ultimately provided excellent steamy hot showers, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure. The boxcar's location next to a barn & adjacent to cheerful donkeys and frisky horses beyond the fence added a picturesque touch. The presence of potted flowers and a well-maintained path enhanced the natural beauty of the surroundings. Though the rental had a comfortable master bed, it's worth noting that the second bed is a pull-out couch, although it seemed quite comfy. The delightful host's attentiveness to any issues we encountered added to the charm of the place. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend this stay and hope to return in the future!

The boxcar is amazing! It is beautiful both inside and out. We loved the wide open spaces and the quiet. The bed was comfortable and I didn’t want to get out of the shower! We spent hours sitting outside on the patio. We will definitely be returning. Becky has created the perfect getaway.

El Capitan Boxcar Casita is the sweetest surprise. The casita is filled with cowboy/girl touches & trivia, bright spots of color, tempting snacks, refreshing drinks, everything for tea or coffee, and toiletries. Heavy steel characteristics you'd expect for bulky transport are visible amid the unfinished wall boards. "Vents" over the comfy queen bed are now skylights, so look for starshine. At the opposite end of the car, a transparent overhead door allows light to pour in (and fresh air, I'm sure, in the right season). Outdoor seating with views and sounds of meadows is SO relaxing. Sunsets & starlight are bonus! Horses, dogs & birds entertain. We hope to return again & again.

This place is darling and super close to Palo Duro Canyon. The animals that come right up to the fence next to the boxcar are a bonus and so we’re the cute toads who gathered on the porch under the light at night. The host is very nice and helpful and had toiletries and snacks ready!

Everything you could want
This property was one of the best I’ve stayed in. We chose it for our girls’ trip for the adorable and funky character. Property was pristine and perfect in the middle of a farm. Everything around it was picturesque and the traincar was decorated so beautifully. Clean and cute and comfy. Bed was soft and cozy. And location was convenient to the PD Canyon where we were visiting. I hope to bring my husband back one day and I know he would appreciate this property too. Well done!!

Coolest place we've stayed so far
We came here primarily to hike Palo Duro, and the boxcar was a perfect home base for our trip. It was clean, really well decorated, and i love being around all the dogs, donkeys, and horses. All of them were very sweet to my girlfriend and I. Our cat didnt really like them but thats because shes a cat. Great experience!

One of a kind remarkable 'house' in a boxcar
This space feels like you're stepping into a film set, everything in this 'small house' is curated, selected and found to feel like West Texas. At the same time, it's comfy, cozy and welcoming. Becky knew it had been my birthday and left delicious cupcakes. Plus a bunch of healthy and guilty pleasure snacks for us to indulge. While we were there we hiked in the Palo Duro Canyon, played golf in Canyon (nice course actually), visited Cadillac Ranch, napped, and found several better-than-expected restaurants in Canyon. Super fun. Highly recommend. Becky is a delight, plus you can get a glimpse into a working ranch. Oh, and should mention there are two mini-split AC units, super quiet and keep the temperature perfectly comfortable. Big windows, skylights and space inside feels bigger inside than outside.

Didn't want to leave this piece of paradise!
The best thing I can tell you about Becky's boxcar, El Capitan, is that there is no hyperbole in the the other reviews - it really is as amazing as they all state. Our two night stay there exceeded our expectations in every way. The boxcar is tucked away just past Becky's house and stables. The large windows on one end offer an amazing view of the vast pasture but we always felt like we had as much privacy as we wanted. Inside it's just as cozy, comfortable, and clean as you could imagine. You'll find everything you need and more here, from a nice snack and drink assortment, toiletries, books and magazines, coffee, and more. Becky is the perfect host and always ready with a smile and helpful recommendations. Yes, at least one of her dogs will welcome when you arrive and check on you each time you come back. After a greeting and a little attention they'll get back to their busy lives. And It's surprisingly relaxing to sit outside and watch the donkeys and horses, and most are happy to meet you at the fence for a quick chat and scratch behind the ear. Without a doubt, this is our first any time we're back in the area.

What An Awesome Place
I wanted to find something different than just another house to stay in. This Boxcar is Awesome! Better than expected yet exactly as described. Unique, clean, quiet, and very peaceful. Warm and cozy even with all the wind. Becky, the host, was so nice. Her dogs were very friendly and we enjoyed petting them. The horses and donkeys greeted us and let us pet them as well. We also went to nearby Palo Duro Canyon…AMAZING! and Creek House Honey Farm for some very cool shopping and Mead tasting. Thanks again, Becky, for such a lovely get away!!!

Super charming and comfortable boxcar!
Becky is a great host who made us feel very welcome in every way, including directions, snacks, music, fresh flowers, and meeting her sweet dogs. The El Capitan Boxcar lodging was well-laid out and very comfortable. You can tell a lot of thought and choices went into every little detail including the regional canyon-themed art and books. We loved watching the stars through the skylights over the bed! The view across the plains from the big living room window was lovely. Our dogs enjoyed watching the horses and donkeys! It is so refreshing to find a nice lodging that accepts dogs. Close to everything, but still remote enough to feel you are out in the country, we will definitely choose the El Capitan Boxcar again for a future trip.!

El Captain Casita Pure Peace and Charm
I wanted to find memorable accommodations for this mother-daughter college tour trip. I knew my daughter’s hopes were high for West Texas, and I would do all I could to make this trip stand out. El Captain Casita perfectly situated on a lovely horse farm just outside of Canyon, proved to be the ideal “home” for our 5 day trip. Here we were able to take in the pastoral landscape, sunrise and sunsets, and star filled skies at night. We were greeted so kindly by Becky with snacks, drinks including tea and coffee - even a tea kettle! The beds (I took the sleeper sofa, with a view) were done up with comfortable pillows, linens, duvets, and woolen blankets. The decor is true western charm. I enjoyed the coffee table books and magazines that helped fill me in on the Texas panhandle and this corner of our world. It’s really a great place to unplug … and tune into the journey you are on (though there is perfect WiFi and TV, too!). I’m glad to know I have such a great place to stay again when we return for college orientation! Thank you Becky!

Perfect place for a memorable trip
This is the most unique place we have ever stayed and it was also the most thoughtfully laid out. My daughter went around pointing out all the cool decorations and we appreciated touches like snacks, a wireless phone charger, Keurig coffee maker, entertaining coffee table books and anything else you might need on a trip. After getting to visit with the dogs, seeing the horses and donkeys for a bit and enjoying the view of a beautiful sunset from the porch, we all slept well on the comfortable beds. Becky was amazing and we could not ask for a better host.

My husband and I, and our 2 girls stayed at El Capitan for spring break - such an awesome place. Becky was an amazing host, providing all the comforts of home. The property is beautiful with wide open views and wonderful sunsets. There are friendly animals and she let the girls feed her donkeys and horses which was fun! The property is in a great location, near the canyon as well as restaurants and entertainment in Canyon and Amarillo. There is plenty to do in the area. We highly recommend this place!

Such a lovely stay
My husband and I are from Fort Worth. We drove all the way to the Grand Canyon and added one last stop here in Palo Duro before heading home. This place was so well kept with lovely amenities and design. The host thought of everything and was excellent with communication. We even got to pet some of the sweet animals nearby. We will definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to many friends and family. The proximity to Palo Duro is great, and there are lots of cool places in downtown Canyon. And who doesn’t want to stay in a perfect little boxcar?

An Incredible Stay
We loved El Capitan! A perfect base for visiting Palo Duro Canyon, Amarillo and the Panhandle. Everything about this visit was great from the excellent communication from an amazing host to all the amenities and the quality of the very memorable lodging. My brother was visiting from Michigan and I couldn’t have found a better way to enjoy the sunsets and stargazing than at El Capitan! Becky was outstanding with communication and greeting us when we got there. Very cool experience and can’t wait to stay again. Thanks Becky!!!
