  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The perfect place to stay in Bruges. Incredible hosts, who even picked us up at the train station and took us back, and provided tons of information and bicycles! The location is perfect, just two blocks from the main square. The apartment is amazing, super-clean, and stocked with everything you will need. The outside terrace is delightful to sit and enjoy the carillon bells. A million stars!!

Location was amazing, walking distance to everything we wanted. Marc was great and even picked us up from the train station. He showed us all kinds of local spots to check out. Our kids loved the place as well. We would definitely recommend staying here with your family.

Perfect location, amazing property, great host!

Marc is a great host, and the penthouse is a wonderful, unique property in the heart of Bruges. So much history and character in the property. Marc was very responsive and flexible with an odd hours check in and check out and gave us great recommendations. Had a lovely time!

This property could not be more perfect for a trip to Bruges! I don't know where to begin... The location is phenomenal, just a short walk from the main square, all the major sites, great restaurants and a grocery. The apartment is charming, spacious, spotless, with everything you need for a comfortable stay (including bicycles!). To say the host, Marc, is gracious world be a gross understatement. From his communication to his greeting on arrival, and all the little touches, Marc is truly a super host. (I'm a VRBO host with over 400 five start ratings and he puts me to shame!)Do not hesitate to rent this property if it's available, you will not regret it! Thank you again, Marc.

Great Bruges residence

This apartment was excellent for my family’s stay in Bruges. The host had thoughtfully prepared for our arrival and check-in was seamless. The residence is charming and in an excellent location to explore the town’s sights and attractions. We arrived by car so the included parking was very convenient, as was use of the host’s bicycles which we took advantage of. Our stay was a memorable one and we will definitely seek out this residence again for our next visit.

Lovely apartment in a great location

The apartment has great character and a lovely terrace. The location is ideal for easy walking distance into the center of town yet far enough away to be quiet at night. The kitchen was great for simple breakfasts and had a good coffee machine. The stairs were a bit of a challenge with a bad knee but not impossible. Marc was very helpful - picked us up at the train station and dropped us off at our canal boat at the end of our stay. Couldn’t ask for more!

The Perfect Stay in Brugge!

Absolutely wonderful visit from the moment we pulled up to our departure! Such a warm and comfortable atmosphere with incredibly gracious hosts. Everything was perfect!

First of all, the hosts were wonderful! They provided so much helpful information for us. They ensured we were well prepared for our visit and throughout the visit made sure all was well. The penthouse itself is in a wonderful historic property that has been lovingly refurbished with nice amenities. The location was in the heart of Bruges with easy walking access to the historic heart of this medieval town. We would definitely stay here anytime our travels take us to Bruges.

Amazing location

Beautiful stunning apartment, right in the middle of Bruges. Very clean apartment and very comfortable beds. Kitchen well equipment. Marc was adorable, very friendly and welcoming. Amazing stay

Beautiful, authentic apartment. Takes you back in time with stained glass windows, wooden beams and beautiful terrace. I enjoyed sitting on the terrace hearing all of the church bells ring. Kids LOVED the apartment. Proximity to city center and belfort is incredible. I would recommend this apartment!!!

Great Stay in Bruges

Marc is a wonderful host and very attentive to detail. The apartment was very comfortable and quite spacious and in an excellent location - within minutes of the main square. He even hung the US flag outside of the building for his American visitors. Lots of restaurants and a supermarket within a few minutes walk. Highly recommend this property for a visit to this beautiful city.

Perfect getaway

We came for my wife's birthday as a surprise and we were not disappointed. Marc was super helpful and very accommodating as we had a late arrival. My 2 year old daughter loved the toys that Marc had stored. The location is perfect, and the outdoor terrace was a nice addition for the evenings. Would definitely come back.

Best rental and best hospitality!

We had an amazing stay in Brugges! The home is fantastic, full of history and charm, and in the perfect location. Marc is the most hospitable host! He picked us up from the train station upon our arrival, and even drove us back at the end of our stay which is unexpected from a host and was also so helpful. He walked us through everything we needed to know about the home and made us feel very welcomed. He has bikes that can be used during the stay, which was another great value and benefit, and riding bikes was one of the highlights of our stay. If you are looking at this listing, you should definitely book--you will not regret it! We would definitely stay at this home again!

Perfect Gem in a perfect location

Our husband and I as well as my 9 yr, 11 yr and 75 yr old mother absolutely fell in love with this place. The location is perfectly walkable to groceries, the square and to everything you need. The rooftop is amazing, but the real charm is inside and with the wonderful host, Marc. He is an absolute gem and has so much great information to share about Bruge. We will absolutely stay here again for our next trip to Bruge!

Great apartment close to the centre

The apartment is spacious and full of character. It is brilliantly situated, being extremely central but on a street that is not busy at all. The terrace was surprisingly big and we really appreciated it when the sun came out. The owner, Marc, was very helpful and friendly, and was always easy to reach. All in all, a great spot from which to enjoy this lovely city.

Charming penthouse in Bruges

We loved the penthouse! It has so much character, lots of space, and was very relaxing after a day of exploring Bruges. Marc, our host, is kind and gracious, and gave us a lot of information about Bruges, not to mention a bowl of fruit and some beer. He even picked us up from the train station and brought us back at the end of our stay. Truly a top host! I would love to stay here again.
