Cable Beach Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Cable Beach which includes a sandy beach and land animals
Explore the stretch of beach where the Kimberley region meets the Indian Ocean and watch a dazzling sunset over the gentle waves.

Cable Beach is an expansive sweep of white-sand beach where you can lay down a towel and relax for the day, ride a camel along the shoreline or simply enjoy the views. With 22 kilometres (13.7 miles) of sand, striking red ochre cliffs and stunning native flora, this sensational beach has plenty to offer sun-worshippers.

Pack a sun umbrella, your towel and some sunscreen and hit the beach. There is plenty of room to spread out on Cable Beach’s wide sweep of sand. Take a dip in the warm, turquoise-coloured waters and admire serene views of the horizon. It’s a suitable beach for kids, with lifeguards patrolling the safest swimming areas in the dry season.

Book a camel tour with one of the waterfront or Cable Beach town area operators. From the lofty heights of a camel’s back, you’ll get another perspective of the stunning beach views. As you meander along the beach atop your steed, your guide will inform you about the surrounding area and Broome’s fascinating history as a pearling town. Four-wheel drive tours are also available.

Head to the southern end of Cable Beach until you reach an area of red-rock headland known as Gantheaume Point. Here, you’ll find a skeletal steel lighthouse and intriguing prehistoric relics. At low tide, you’ll be able to see 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints, preserved in reef rock.

Don’t miss a breathtaking sunset over the Indian Ocean. The last rays of warm, tropical sunshine splash across the wet sand, changing the hue to brilliant orange. End your evening with a drink at one of the resort bars dotted around the southern end of the beach.Cable Beach is located just 8.5 kilometres (5.3 miles) northwest of Broome. Catch buses between Broome and Cable Beach or park your car near the cafés at the beach’s southern end.

Cable Beach has a range of accommodation options, from luxurious resorts to caravan parks. Beach closures can occur during the jellyfish season, between November and May. Visit between May and October to enjoy the dry season’s sunshine.
