Great small hotel in a fantastic location. The staff were really welcoming and extremely helpful. The room was warm even though it was mid winter. Two very close subway stations.
Very quaint courtyard hotel in real Beijing. Delightful staff, especially Lily. We had a standard room with a bath which was delightful. And supplies were topped up regularly.
Only issue is that the walls are a bit thin - but earplugs are provided.
The room was overall good, but had a few opportunities for improvements like painting the walls, or some maintenance in the bathroom.
The location was good and staff very friendly.
It was very quiet and pleasant. The service was helpful.

Only good things about this place are front office staff and free movie selection on the television.
We stayed in a family room. It is stated as having an extra large twin bed. It is not. It is longer than a twin and skinnier than a twin. So I guess if you are tall it is fine. We had two kids sharing. It is a camp cot and I felt terrible our children had to sleep on this. Somehow they did not complain. There is a mound of dust underneath the uncomfortable queen bed. The cleaning lady did not provide enough towels or restock the toilet paper and left our door unlocked after she was done. The bathroom wall had mold on it and the shower fluctuates from scolding hot to cold. Had to take baths as that was the only way to get a decent temperature.
The hotel is not located near any good restaurants and not as close to the the subway as we thought. No chance we would ever stay here again. I can not believe all the good reviews. We travel a lot and never stay at super nice places but this was definitely below the comfort we would expect at the price paid.
Nice staff Who speak English my lander very helpful. Great Hutong experience!

Thank you very much for your review, Bill. We are glad to know that you enyoyed your stay here and hope there will be a another chance to have you here. Best regards!
During our stay the road up to the hotel was being dug up. This was horrible. Hotel didn't inform us or care. The staff haven't got much common sense about guests.
Rooms were dirty. The area isn't very nice.
Stay in a western hotel in Beijing close to the subway, its not worth ruining your trip risking somewhere.

Dear Adam K, Thank you for taking your time to write comment about 161 Hulu hotel . We’re so sorry about the renovation going on in the hutong. We only got the information about it the day you checked in, and it got started the next morning. According to the requirements of the Beijing government, all hutongs in the city center have to be revamped, either the merchants or the local residents can’t prevent it. And at the first day of the construction, we put letters in every room and at the reception to inform guests and reminding them to be careful, and if you had any questions at any situation that needed help with you can always feel free to ask for help at the reception. Now the revamping is over, the hutong has gone back to the quite as it always was. Parts of walls at our hotel are being revamped indeed. The winter in Beijing is really cold, the paint on the surface of the wall is a kind of technological coating so the color changes easily due to the coldness and weather change, and that effects the entirety layout, we revamp it every year so it stays the best condition as possible for our guests. If that caused you inconvenience, then it’s our neglect and we apologize here. Hope you are well and looking forward to meeting you again in Beijing.
